As it turned colder one light shower by mid afternoon produced snow pellets. Very windy with westerly gusts close to gale force. Feeling much colder. The evening saw a light snow shower.

Two loud claps of thunder between 1135 and 1140 followed by heavy snow which has added another 3.5cm to the snow cover.

The snow has stopped and the temperature is -0.7c.

24 hr rainfall total ( melted snow ) to 0900 was 8.8 mm

It's the third consecutive January to record thunder, prior to 2013 there had been only one occasion in the preceding 17 years.
