...as usual our weather benign dullness is paying dividends elsewhere...http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-31146535

UK High come back in spring/early summer please...not now! (I would say mid summer but then it would just be too hot)

Not sure why the North West cold spell last week is still trending in the BBC's most read stories of the day?

Well I was staying positive despite this gloomy muck but that first link just killed it for me lol. Costa del Arctic down in Spain damn them! You've got to laugh :)

I'm slowly starting to give up now even if it is only 5th Feb, the crappy boring pattern still being modeled takes us til mid month, so not much of a snow window left after that! So frustrating after so much promise at the start of this winter with many factors supposedly in our favour. So far I've had about 2 hours of lying snow in the dark and 1 day of snow/hail showers which left a 2mm covering only to melt 5 mins later. So basically sh%$e yet again!

PS And I also hate the Gulf Stream in the winter!!! :nonono:

PPS You can bet your bottom dollar though when rain is forecast EVERYBODY gets it, torrential too!

Not quite, when it's torrential and newsworthy our region would end up with a bit of drizzle.

When a heat wave is forecast we'll get the low cloud and as for snow, now where have I put that mild sector.

It's been a lovely day here, almost spring like except it was only 6c, The sun is definitely getting more strength and the nights

are creeping out, and the birds are starting to sing earlier of a morning :D I'm happy even if everyone else on here is full of woe..................Glass half full

Looks like the 'cold spell' is ending on a rather lacklustre note.. mind there is nothing particularly mild on the horizon for the foreseeable future either, just average maxes and perhaps some preety cold nights depending on cloud cover.

Here I still have snow cover on the front garden, a week now.. indicative of the cold dry ground.

Fells have a very strange sort of late ski season look about them, the snow looking mottled and sketchy.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
