One day I will jump on a plane and fly across to Boston (or NYC) to witness one of these big nor'easter storms 1st hand, though not till I'm retired.

Was in NYC about 12 years ago and almost saw one, but the snow turned to torrential rain and washed the snow that had fallen that morning (about 10cms) away. We caught a plane home the same day, which was delayed by several hours due to the storm. The takeoff and 1st 10 minutes of the flight were let's say interesting....,similiar to the plane scene in 'Day after Tomorrow'!

I'm really pessimistic about the chances of snow at T+4382...

(That's late July. :p)

Looking at the model thread I get the impression this impending cold spell is easier to forecast than the last one we had. MetO warnings out for Wed/Thurs already in Scotland, and there seems to be a reasonable level of agreement between models too.

Ha ha ha but the Met are not predicting the end of the world is coming unlike the papers... its just ridiculous every Autumn they peddle out the same crap and it never happens and they have done the same again this winter.... and we all know its not going to happen the way they say it is going to. I think the Met Office have done brilliant so far this winter..

Right 18Z, i wanna see a clean NW'ly, not the low close to the UK bringing rain, as shown on GFS 12Z and ECM, hopefully UKMO has this right

Up to t78 the 18z is pretty similar to the 12z considering it's the sunday pub run. Expected wild changes and instead got only some very mild changes. That's a good thing I suppose, perhaps it's already nailed it pretty much.

edit:

Starting to see some more significant changes in 850 temps on the 18z come t90. It's an upgrade mind you. Yey.
