As the Captain says true winter wonderland scene this morning in the higher part of Leigh On Sea, will post some pics from my Iphone soon, but a decent 1-2cm covering this morning and that wet snow that makes the trees magical!

Drip Drip Drip means it will mostly be gone by afternoon though.

We got the Sweetspot though!

I've been to Istanbul in the winter and I'd be happy to get even a small fraction of the snowfall they get over there every year!

So, we're in the coldest part of the year, we have an "arctic blast", yet we still get mostly rain and temps between 5-7C. What hope do we have?

True! The Istanbul bit was from our local friends of the earth rep when we were watering our local orchard! Very dry here generally. Grew up in Bournemouth, a lot wetter than here

Wow have woken to my first snow in nearly 2 years , even if its just a dusting (looks nice covering everything) Dog has seen his first snow and hes not very impressed ..

temp 1.3c .. Have  a feeling we would have woken to more had it been colder as I think we've already had some melt..

Still it now gives us hope going forward over the next several days , especially as its to get a bit colder still, last nights snow was only forecast within 6 hrs. so who knows what might pop up nxt week .. a few more polar lows would be nice..

So WTF happened ???!!! Went to bed last night expecting to wake up to some sort of covering and nothing ? Radar was looking good and everything . Very disappointed.

Here, here,

Wet bulb level increased take 3am for example, ideally you want freezing level below 200-300m, there was a mild sector at play - disappointed considering it was not even expected, Essex has done well being further east, in the more conducive parameters for snow. I did have some moderate snow yesterday for about 3m, but I want much more. Well slight warm up today - on the news I see Southend got a covering.

We got unlucky it seems all too common, but overall the track was largely correct.

A sprinkling on grass and cars. Nothing on the road or pavements, apart from wet.

Let's see what the weekend brings.

Enough for son to make snowballs, not enough to cause disruption. That's fine by me.

Thanks Hammer, ive just taken a drive to high wych and its fascinating what a tiny difference in elevation can do, yep 1-2 cms of lying snow, all fields and trees are white.

Just doing the commute down the cambridge - london line. In to harlow and still a good covering but noticeably less than say sawbridgeworth.

I'm expecting by the time I get to Chesunt for there to be very little

Only skimmed my location last night as i thought it would. However im pleased some members witnessed snowfall and from a forecasting perspective I said NW England to SE rather than Wales as the BBC were suggesting.
