Perhaps the wind stopping ice?

Doubt it at ground level.

South East England

Colder than of late, and windy with isolated wintry showers.

This Evening and Tonight:

Cold and windy, with mainly dry conditions overnight and clear periods. A few scattered sleet or snow showers are likely, particularly later in the night in the west across Hampshire and Berkshire. Icy stretches may from on untreated surfaces. Minimum Temperature 0

BBC News 24 just pointed the camera towards the lampost to show the snow falling, even they're jumping on the lampost watch bandwagon

Have a DP 0 and temp 5.1 here.

The temp has stayed pretty stable here. Down to 4.9c the DP has dropped to -2c since my last post though.

Im surprised at some of the posts.

Let me put it this way how many times have you seen showers on a mild W. My answer is plenty although obviously more scattered than further W. So my point is why should this be different because its a bitterly cold W,ly!

I am not suggesting widespread snow but snow showers are likely to pop up this evening and especially overnight and like I say we have already seen a snow shower this afternoon.

Good point

I was thinking the exact same thing. â„

Good Evening everyone,

It has certainly cooled down a lot over the last hour or so and the wind has died down quite a bit to herald in a cold night, with local air frost in sheltered rural districts.

Late this morning as the squall line came through there was a few minutes of very strong gusty winds. My wife had decided to put our recycling in the plastic's sack out earlier today as it was full and the collections are still catching up from the Christmas break and is starting storing further plastics in another sack in the garage.

Unfortunately during the gusty period we lost our plastic sack from the underhang to our house in our front garden as it blew away down the culdesac, never to be seen again!. I have searched adjoining roads without success. If Captain Shortwave, Ice Days or any other of the Chelmo contingent find a very lonely looking recycling sack it is ours!

Really looking forward to next week in particular when the really cold air should become entrenched and we should hopefully benefit from either disturbance moving south or a drift in off the North Sea. The MOD (or MAD thread as some call it) is certainly a happy place this afternoon, let us hope that the ECM 12Z keeps up the good spirits.

Kind Regards

Dave

Wrong wind direction for the SE proper. EA yes, you may well catch something.

From the MetO forecast for Friday to Sunday for East Anglia :

Remaining cold with occasionally notable wind-chill. Sunny spells can be expected along with occasional showers, perhaps of snow, most frequent across Norfolk. Frost and icy patches likely overnight.

PERHAPS OF SNOW? PERHAPS? They had better be of snow when they get here (especially on Sunday) else I think I'll give up!

Ah, but Friday is the warm sector bit - it's Saturday night onwards that the fun really starts!

True, have added a little bracketed comment to my post accordingly! :)

Well I'm not expecting anything down here throughout this entire cold spell, it's going to be hell down here, whilst everyone else in the entire universe gets seventeen foot of snow, including the inner core of the sun, we'll probably get seagulls flying out of the sky stealing peoples doughnuts

The NetWx-SR certainly keen to bring some snow showers down through into the SE tonight, and also tomorrow for that matter.

What are the verification stats on this model & what data is it based on? I wonder how it compares with the EURO4, I use the NetWx model quite frequently and it to me, seems to suggest sleet when it would otherwise be snow
