Regional SE Today forecast mentioned rain/sleet showers tonight, absolutely no mention of any snow for tomorrow. Glad to see consistency between regionals and nationals..

Yes - a common problem and highly irritating. I think it is because the nationals are updated more regularly

The last map we generally only really use in Summer to show LI (Lifted Index) and CAPE.. Potentially available energy?)

The lower the LI the more unstable the atmosphere is.. For instances.. Its basically the temperature of the air particles in the air and ground??

In america they could have 6000KJ of CAPE and a LI of -8 This is SERIOUS thunderstorm territory..

Here say average summer storms... 500-600KJ Cape AND A li OF SAY -3 Normal thunderstorms..

  • LI 6 or Greater, Very Stable Conditions
  • LI Between 1 and 6 : Stable Conditions, Thunderstorms Not Likely
  • LI Between 0 and -2 : Slightly Unstable, Thunderstorms Possible, With Lifting Mechanism (i.e., cold front, daytime heating, ...)
  • LI Between -2 and -6 : Unstable, Thunderstorms Likely, Some Severe With Lifting Mechanism
  • LI Less Than -6: Very Unstable, Severe Thunderstorms Likely With Lifting Mechanism

Someone with more knowledge please correct any mistakes..

thank you so much !!super clear

Snow tomorrow dependant on timing. midday fax is promising, if we can get it into east anglia/home counties towards sunset, then game on. Also later in the night another band likely. Timing key or it'll be sleety :(

shame it gets milder on friday, but still some snow falling without needing the lamp post would be pretty marvellous to see :)

Haven't seen a snowflake since early Apr 13, so seeing some snow falling would make my day! Hopefully that'll happen within the next week! haha!

I mentioned earlier that Thursday night / early Friday is of some interest (based on GFS here, so not to be taken to literally). TEITS also alluded to it in model thread.

Here is 3am Friday morning from Weathermap+ on iPhone and also NMM for same time.

This is spooky…

I was just thinking its a shame that our street light doesn’t work and then a van pulled up and two Hertfordshire lighting operatives got out replaced the bulb in the lamp post !! :clapping:

Is it possible to have a dewpoint of -46.8 C? https://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/research/dtg/weather/

In some parts of the world, yes, in the UK, record breaking, right now, in Cambridge, no  :p

Very impressive gusts early this afternoon, though it's calmed down just a tad now and the sun's come out. Wouldn't want to be cycling against it!

Both BBC and MetO just put snow symbols for Medway all evening tomorrow, wonder if we might see the yellow warning extended this eve?

Lovely T-storm earlier on: lightning, thunder, large hail and sleet. Now for the weekend?

I just seen a video forecast from Kate Kinsella and it doesn't show white over the region, if you have facebook go to the BBC South East page and you get the video forecasts there.

I saw it on TV - No mention of snow at all, whereas nationals do mention the snow, I suspect the BBC lunch time regional forecasts use out of date data

I wasn't saying it was right, I was just pointing it out to show the difference between BBC forecasts and MO forecasts. I'm well aware of how shower activity works.

I don't think Daniel is, just simply working out what tv forecasts have been viewed because the National and the Regional are showing different things, the regional also shows clear sky tonight.
