We've had a lot of dry weather here in Darlington between March 13th and April 10th we've recorded just 20mm of rain

Yeah but miles better now with foggy cold nights, mid to late summer has horrible warm nights that last into autumn, even next two nights in a very warm snap aren't too warm.

Horrible warm nights? This is the UK, not Florida. Get a grip.

Air con is commonplace in the USA but not in the UK though, so warm summer nights in the UK are often more unpleasant for sleeping.

I dont own a weather station but the 1st half of spring 2015 seems to have been very dry (at least in the south). Even the unsettled spell at the end of march saw mostly persistent drizzle as opposed to any heavy rain here. Looking forward to Wednesday's heat btw lets hope it materialises :-)

215.8 hours of sunshine here in the past 30 days which is the highest 30-day total since summer 2013  :good:

2015 is certainly proving a welcome contrast to 2014 as far as sunshine goes with 530 hours so far. This total wasn't reached until 26th May last year.

Even the upcoming poor spell should be nowhere near as dull and depressing as the grim end to April 2014.

Its turning into a very good spring if im honest. Plenty of dry weather from high pressure overhead and sunshine amounts have been very notable. Id imagine when the average temps come out for April they will show maxima have been well above average, with minima nearer average.

would have thought that, frost more likely in April than dec, Dec is dominated by gales and rain, W/SW'lys and mild days/nights

It has been the story of the year in our location so far. All four months have had below average minima but average or above average maxima due to lots of dry, sunny weather.

Any idea how sunny this April has been?

It feels like it has been a sunny one

We're on 187 hours so far compared to the 1981-2010 for the entire month of 155hrs. Its been a very sunny December - April period really, with all five months well above average:

Dec 2014: 91hrs (175%)

Jan 2015: 91hrs (160%)

Feb 2015: 105hrs (131%)

Mar 2015: 133hrs (119%)

Apr 2015: 187hrs (121%) so far

Leeming is on 188 hours. 200 hours seems almost certain to be breached.

As of yesterday, Leeming has 199.3 hours of sun, and today it has already exceeded that. Could give April 2011 a run for its money if the last few days are sunny.

A trip to Workington today showed a good dusting of fresh snow to the Lakeland fells, the pennines around crossfell and the high Yorkshire dales.

Finished on 224.5 hours sunshine here for April easily beating 2011 (211.8hrs) and 2007 (202.5hrs) to make it the sunniest April for Aberdeen since 1906 which remains the sunniest on record.

There is a good chance of April being the sunniest month of the year again unless May proves better. Given up expecting anything from the pile of dross formerly known as summer. July 2006 is the only summer month to have been sunnier than this April since the turn of the century and April is now the 2nd sunniest month of the year after May.

Rainfall was only 13.2mm up to the 23rd but a very wet final week, with 32.8mm, has taken it close to average (so similar to what happened in  April 2003 and July 2013).

Despite the fact that it was drier than average it was the 3rd wettest April in the past 10 years, only 2008 and 2012 having been wetter than average in that time.

Total for Leeming was 221.5 hours. Very sunny indeed. That's around 49% of the possible.
