Interesting post by nick in the mod thread, let's hope the westward corrections that were shown in the output this morning continues with the 12z's

Just been for a nice long bike ride, still 1/4 of an inch still left at height (in cotswolds) and crispy almost like it was wet when it fell and then the temps dropped afterwards almost like a creme brulee.

Had some fantastic showers this morning, 1 of them had just snow in places like Brading and other hilly areas, then after an absolute beast of a hail and snow shower passed, was crazy, everything went white! love it!

Disappointed not to get any dusting of snow overnight, so had to drive for 40 mins to go to the Malverns to get a patchy covering to walk / play in. Some cold spell so far :(

Terrible wet cold day. Max temp 6.4.

Not expecting temps to drop much below 3 degrees over night.

Very tricky one this week, the models are all over the place! There is a slight risk at the moment, I reckon we will get a mixture of rain and sleet showers at times with the risk of some wet snow, that's just judging by the charts :) though don't give up hope yet, still time for change :D

Fingers crossed!

The 600 odd day wait for a snowflake continues after the showers earlier not delivering any snow... Just a few spots of rain, as it was very light... I'm sure it it was heavier then it would be in the form of snow as it was cold enough!

Well, the cold spell is now upon us and should last to at least the 24th January when one looks at all available outputs. The next most pertinent question for a fair proportion of us in here is, is it going to snow and when. Bar tonight's rather meagre opportunity, the next best comes around the 20th and 21st January as alluded to below, from the MOD thread.

https://forum.netweather.tv/topic/82300-model-output-discussion-16th-jan-12z-onwards-smile-while-you-post/?p=3126012

For most of us, the descriptive weather word of the day continues to be MARGINAL and remains so for a while yet.

Too far away to be more specific than that and in spite of several prior runs, this quoted part of a post I did the other day remains true to this day.

  • "After a quick glance at the above, put simply, from midnight tonight Temperatures will be lower than any point in recent times right through to the 23rd January should the above verify (and why shouldn't it?). Temperatures will definitely well below normal and cold enough for snow on most days even during daytime by the looks of it. For central England as good a region of choice to represent snowfall chances inland as anywhere imo, these ensembles indicate that the following timeframes will be ones to watch. The evening of Saturday 17th January, Tuesday 20th January mid-afternoon onwards and Wednesday 21st January (Happy Birthday gtltw :drinks: ) reflect the greatest snowfall opportunities currently. This is not to say there will not be further opportunities for snow and hopefully lying snow options outside of these timeframes, equally we need the colder air to verify as shown too, alongside hope of lower 850s to avoid any transient events."

I needed something to cheer me up today, gtltw. The charts you posted look very pretty, thank you. I like that particular shade of blue and the hatched area in the middle, very much. :air_kiss:

Meagre hopes it is then, but best watch DPs and WBFLs and the intensity of the precipitation as things don't always go as expected.  :D

Hi legritter,

On similar matters, you must have missed my forecast update from the other day which read......................

"all snow from now on is forecast to fall in extraordinary amounts from the M4 southwards. Forecast courtesy of Carlsberg Special Brew, HIC!"

:drinks: to you and one and all, happy days.
