Don't think we saw a easterly flow like was modelled a couple of days ago in the recent cold winters? Mainly NE and North. Ok, March 2013 had an easterly but these are very rare and always seem to disappear.

Will be an interesting week.

This isn't cold enough to snow, not looking good to be honest.

At lower levels I wouldn't expect anything to stick as it probably would be wet snow or sleet here due to the marginality but like a couple of days ago, higher areas such as the Mendips could keep any covering the may get, especially night falls.

All speculation at this stage yet anyway as we can't even be sure if it is or isn't going to snow yet.

Agreed. But its good that something wintry is expected to fall even this weekend, this seems to have just popped up. With the colder conditions from Monday hopefully more little events will pop up so we can at least see snow falling.

I'm interested in the night time temps, during the last colder spell my back yard got down to -5.4 and that was impressive..........Can this be beaten next week!!

Of course..

I find it amazing how our country is so small that we can never get a country wide event! In the USA its such a different story, impressive cold areas that would cover most of NW Europe!

I think I might move there. It is exceptionally impressive.

you would think that some of the members in that MOD thread would have learnt by now! we are trying to trust charts that were over 5 days away from verifying and it's still not near being sorted yet! Perhaps our region is just more used to failure when wintry weather is concerned.

I see Ian F has put a half decent update in the Mod Thread anyway.

Some PPN now pepping up just off the coast of Wales to probably give Cornwall and Devon some showers which could be wintry over the hills, with temperatures still relatively low.

Well..sometimes the south west can be in prime location. Remember Easterly flow can usually be just dry...north and north west flow can be more interesting.

Certainly cold here thus far. Temps have actually dropped in the last hour to now 1c. Lot of cloud about though keeping the sun at bay.

Perhaps for where you are MPG, but Northerly or North Westerly the showers tend not to reach MBY unless its a screamer of a flow! I much prefer an Easterly, but I won't lose sleep over it not evolving now(at least it looks that way), seen to many failures over the past years of model watching to get bent out of shape any more.

When was the last time an Easterly brought you a good covering of snow and temperatures below freezing during the day? Feb 91? :)

10cm to fall on English channel??

Nooo!! What a waste!!! Don't do that. I always cry when I see snow in the sea.

I do believe its been cancelled now, so sorry. However, it could well be replaced by a SW England trough with stalled fronts aligned SE'wards from central Wales to Winchester. The depression's frontal boundaries lying as suggested, during next Tuesday into Wednesday looks to slowly fill, stall and is likely to produces 36 hours of intermittent snowfall.

Any takers? February 1978 twas an often quoted month which contained such a snow event and who knows, history might repeat itself.

*this is NOT a forecast*  yet it is a hopecast which may become one.

*SMACKS You round the chops* No loosing the faith! It will return ... Please note will requires a little lot of faith!!

Well that's what I mean....why get your hopes for an Easterly if you can't remember if it was good for your area. Get the cold air in place, then lets see what happens.

Temperature still falling now 3.1C and the wind has now spun into the NW, finally some cooler air is arriving.

With 10cm of snow in the channel, wont the sea level rise, scary? :hi:

Met Office do their forecast update at 11am, we will see what that brings.

Heads down for the GFS forecast.
