It's for snow & ice in the North West, it is on there.

Yep looking good.... Knew new warnings would be issued for the potential....

We want the GFS 0z to verify, we might struggle to get much precipitation if the ECM 0z verifies, particularly the far North and East of the region.

Having viewed the car crash known as the MOD thread and the downbeat posts on there I decided to see what all the fuss was about, imagine my surprise when all  I saw was the same theme as yesterday but just varying degrees on  where the slider low could sink. For us in the NW it's a win, win situation as it currently stands ( it could change for the worst for snow ) with us either seeing snow in the way of showers or longer periods of the white stuff, and not just with elevation this time. One thing that next week will be is very cold with daytime maxima's struggling to get much above freezing for many.

Good to see a snow warning! I'm well out of the area but that doesn't mean much in terms of snow, it sharnt dampen my spirits :) The Mod thread can be quite good, but even if you love snow it's best to listen to the completely unbiased opinions like Ian Ferguson, it clouds many others minds like the dark side for the rest and they forget the country is bigger than there 'IMBY' I think everyone in the northwest shall be seeing some flakes at least but Trying to forecast Monday to Wednesday should probably be left until Sunday night :) here's to seeing a flake or two this weekend!

Been thinking that's a possibility given its colder here than what was forecast yesterday, and probably only needs to be a degree or 2 colder for tonight's sleet to become snow.

Warnings for this afternoons strong winds have been updated from the Met Office, we'll get hit much harder this time as they are westerly.

Looking good for those further inland to see some snow over the weekend. For the rest of us looks like a will it or won't it wait for next week.  Looks suspiciously like the set ups of a couple of years ago when the fronts stalled against the high and stopped over the south of the region.

Bit of a daft question but how far from the coast do you have to be to consider yourself 'inland'. I've always though of my area to be fairly coastal as the crow flies, never taken the time to look it up

Jan ....  where snow is concerned and taking into account the warming effect of the Irish Sea, Preston is borderline coastal and we are 20 miles inland.

Obviously if its cold enough it will snow, but the closer to the coast you get, more things need to in your favour for it to actually snow. Generally whenever anyone says marginal that normally means no snow for the 25 mile strip next to the coast.

Dunno really. I'm 20-25 miles from the Coast, but I wouldn't be classed as neither coastal or inland haha!

Anywhere immediately away from the Coast (i.e. 1-2 miles) should be classed as inland in my opinion.
