The winds are starting to pick up here in the last 20 minutes or so, I can hear 'stuff' getting blown around, no rain yet.................cancel that it is raining

A cm of snow overnight followed by another covering at breakfast time made the roads around here absolutely diabolical this morning.

Whether they were salted overnight only the local authorities will know but travel in Rossendale was virtually impossible until late morning

Obviously cars such as mine which are crap in snow don't help as is the case with people who either can't or won't drive to suit the conditions but it was certainly interesting getting about.

Anyway it's short lived with gales now taking centre stage before a return to cold and a chance of snow and then an increasing risk of some heavy snow and bitter cold into next week.

The winds actually tried to suck the curtains out of my window like a vacuum cleaner so I have to keep it shut until its calm or changes direction.

Just seen that myself, good job it's rain and not snow otherwise I'd be really peed off at present.

Exciting times ahead from Friday onwards regarding snow chances. Good to see the possibility of a decent cold spell.

Not that windy here yet, alot of shelter from Wales.. I went out onto the estuary, only sustained winds of 30mph or so, nothing too strong. Back here in the shelter of everything it's almost calm. Nothing will happen here until the wind changes direction to SW-W
