Very cold this morning after a snowless weekend.

Tomorrow looking very 2013esque with the front hitting the block, progress north and east will be slow and as this http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/gcw1fv42w#?tab=fiveDay&fcTime=1421712000  shows its debatable how far it will get.

M6 is 80% of the time where the sleety mix stops and the snow begins in this part of Lancs anyway, has been for years.

Very icy -3 at mine with most of the snow gone. 15 minute walk up the hill to a winter wonderland

Yep exactly. For this part of the world,I've often noticed the M6 as a divide. I saw it regularly when I used to intersect junction 16 down the A500 on the way to uni in Stoke.

This is my huge concern the M6 divide, seen it so many times

Especially with working in Manchester, nothing this side, then

BOOM cross the M6 and everywhere plastered in the stuff

Anyway back to the hear and now the BBC seemed to play

Down the chances of snow, but as others have said probably

A nowcast situation, with some of the graphics people have shown

on here this morning via there meto apps, I would expect weather

warning out by lunchtime today, so far meto have been bang on

the money, and if no warnings are issued soon, I would suspect

they will be correct once again.

They're very careful with warnings because for everyone who isn't a weather fanatic, they will see a yellow warning and if any other warnings are made such as Amber ( doubt we'll see red) the chances are they won't even see the extra warning. The precipitation charts have not been very good at all, so they want to make it into a very reliable timeframe so they can probably put all warnings that they produce in one sitting. They still don't see the current timeframe as reliable.

One run from the GFS I bet the MO thread is in meltdown. 6z has the precipitation crossing all of the region, but ,there is quite a bit of warm air associated with the front  - on this run looks like a wintry mix usual suspects - further E all snow.

Into Wed front stalls and moves back slightly N, Midlands get a right dumping as colder air mixes back in, along with more southern and eastern parts of our region, before fizzling out.

Usual caveats apply its the GFS, and the metoffice are normally more accurate .........

The BBC app still showing snow for Chorley. :-)

Not just that, also they put me winds coming from the south-east that would obviously help it to snow here.

South-east of here is where the West Pennine moors is.

I don't think its a standoff between, I think they're confused, gfs as well.

Agreed CS, UKMET usually have things dead on.  From an IMBY point ot view forecast has moved away from snow for tomorrow, but it does show how quickly things will change ... who knows it could swing back in our favour.

I think it could sing back for lots of the region.....but for you and me in Preston...........we both know thats pretty unlikely....still some is better than no hope????

Trust me if I thought things looked good I would be first on here

having a huge ramp, in these situations though past experiences

I have tought me to do otherwise (march 2013) been the killer for

me, I still have the scars from that event, on the other side of the

coin if I am wrong I will be the first to acknowledge my error s
