Some of yesterday's snow has melted but still plenty about although tomorrow's rain and the yo yo temperatures forecast over the coming days will do it's best to get rid.

The more I look at this event, the more I see shades of late April 1981 when Pennine areas saw a huge fall of snow whilst areas lower down saw nothing.

Maybe not as much fell yesterday as on that occasion but the difference in just a few miles and a couple of hundred feet altitude is staggering.

Keep an eye on the period of 30th jan, yes I know FI

Models seem to be toying with the idea of a Northerly or

N Westerly, this may be a 24hr toppler, or it could be something

A bit more substantial, going to be interesting to see how this

Develops over the coming days.

Had the joy of travelling to Penrith over Shap Fell and was greeted with a winter wonderland scene, temps of freezing and snow on the coniferous trees, the snowline about 300 metres, gardens and roofs of houses in Shap and Hackthorpe covered in a good layer.

Its been an ok cold spell, most precipitation since last Wednesday here has been in the form of hail, sleet or snow, pity about Tuesday, had potential to be an excellent snow event here but wasn't too be.

We are only at winter half way juncture, in terms of snow prospects only about a third way through as these only really die out in April..

Looks like we're chasing another day 10 ECM chart. Hope it's not a toppler.

I am very encouraged by this morning charts, it is not ofton you

Get cross model agreement 7 days out, but that is exactly what

We see this morning, with all models showing a cold and

Potentially very snowy outlook from next weekend.

For the next 7 days though we alternate with the one day cold,

Next day mild regime, with the cold days perhaps bringing snow

Showers to the higher ground.

my seat belt is firmly fastened for the next few days of model

watching, just hope we can get cross model agreement into the

reliable time frame (around Tuesday)

Keep watching folks end of jan beginning feb is looking at been

very interesting indeed

Interesting weather contrasts around these parts. I took  these pictures yesterday of life in Oldham (very snowy) and then on a commute to Blackley in North Manchester.
