As I said earlier - ignore bbc precipitation forecasts etc and warning - Cumbria wasn't meant to see any snow according to them, alas we have had moderate snow for an hour now and an even 1 cm cover, Diane had to acknowledge this fact just now. Temp continues to drop , currently 0.3 degrees, and it looks like we will stay on the right side of marginal to retain a cover through until morning - I'm being greedy but would love to squeeze out at least another cm, an inch would be good, 2 inches ideal - but a very tall order I think.

This was always going to be a case of nowcasting.

Light snow all night here, on and off, but not one flake settling. Road looks like a typical rainy night scene... shame for all that snow to fall and do nothing :(

Wonder if its laying on snaefell?

Yep....

off to bed soon. what are our chances heading into the early hours? Looking like the PPN is circling the southern part of our region?

It's snowing here in Coniston - moderately heavy, settling and covering quite quickly

Yep....

Went for a drive up Snaefell before when the snow first arrived and conditions were perfect for it to accumulate up there. If it hadn't have rained here first then accumulations at my mere 380ft ASL would have been possible...  :nonono:

Last post from me this evening from an increasingly snowy Windermere..

Yes South Cumbria has struck lucky, effect of the warmer water of Morecambe Bay perhaps helping to intensify the precipitation. Snow is filling in nicely now, trees have a covering, and temp has fallen to -0.2 degrees, evaporative cooling is taking effect, and the precip seems to have stalled and is going nowhere.

Will be a lovely white winter scene in the morning - if we maintain current rate for a couple more hours, then no reason why a couple of inches can't be achieved, and given tomorrow will be a largely cloudy day maxes of about 2, followed by a similar day on Thursday there will be minimal thaw.

Weird ?? I'd a thought you would be colder than me ...

the snow cover is probably helping keep your temps down, god knows
