Latest BBC forecast by Helen, she seemed alittle concerned about the storm

Finally! Think this could be quite severe to he honest, specially in your neck of the woods and mine overnight.

Had these interesting striped bands of clouds pass overhead here in East London at around dusk. I don't think I've seen such formations so closely packed together before- I assume these are from the leading edge of the storm?

Unfortunately my pics from my camera phone don't really do them justice.

Gusts 60mph here now squally rain. Unless it goes 70+ then its nothing for this area really. Looks like it might make that overnight and into tomorrow though.

Yes I know, been in a few storms over the years camping at shell island

xcweather wind map/forecast states 63mph gusts at its east midlands location at midnight - 1mph short of beaufort 11 (Violent storm force) - still baffled by the bbc's lack of mention of any inland wind risk?

Granted, the wind speed most likely won't be that high, but still?

Also, the storm looks beautiful:

She used the term "powerful" you don't hear weather presenters say stuff like that too often!

Interesting inshore waters forecast for the north Irish Sea, storm force 10 perhaps violent storm force 11, very rough or high seas!

Rough out there this evening, the biggest blow here since last Feb when gusts reached 60mph.

Driving heavy rain and a strong to gale force southerly, highest gust so far 46mph a few minutes ago and so it is still on the increase.

Cork airport just recorded a gust of 91mph. It's not even in Irelands red alert and that doesn't kick in until 9pm further up the coast. Begs the question how bad could it get or is it a typo lol

18Z synopsis versus the progged ECM and GFS for same time frame.

GFS  gfs-0-6_oeb7.png  ECM ecm0125_millikort_msl_msl-msl3h_thk500_2

Once again, that looks to be a superb representation from the new GFS.

First signs of the cold front showing on the radar to the W of Eire. Certainly a squall line but also looking like LEWP in places

The good news for many is that the strong winds will be for a relatively short period of time as the cold front sweeps east. Certainly the strongest winds of the winter in the south which will bring a few trees down and cause some damage to fences and houses.

UKMO going with a max gust of 49 here tonight, Netweather and XC both going with 60+

Southerly direction could be a bonus for the higher gusts here as we are far more exposed to the South than the usual Westerlies

Is that a fact or your interpretation?
