GFS 6Z is going for heavy snow for the SE including London during Sunday. It will be interesting to see if the later GFS model runs still suggests snow for the SE  :cold:  :D

MetO are being very cautious and say it will rain with a very BIG but; This band of rain has the potential to turn to snow. GFS model in my opinion is going for the heavy ppn and cooling effect = snow. Let's see what the MetO & GFS show later on.

No it isn't - it is going for moderate rain with some back edge snow. Last time I looked most of the SE was below 300-400m which is probably the elevation needed to achieve snow.

I suggest that you use the higher resolution UK charts yamkim.

I am not saying that it won't snow either because things can change - just that the GFS 06Z isn't suggestive of your claim.

Those charts are lower resolution and the grid points are too large to pin point snow for our small area. The high resolution charts (the one both me and Chio) posted show it as a rain event, rather than the "snow" the lower resolution PPN charts show.

Thanks for the update, interesting day ahead tomorrow

I lost a bit of faith when the met removed the warning, but sounds like there is still hope

Lovely heavy snow shower about 9.30am today in Norwich, settled well but it's nearly all melted now in the sunshine. Anyway great to see some after a couple of years.

Just to report heavy snow for about 30 minutes as the band of precipitation passed, almost white out conditions and huge flakes, interestingly the radar showed green. Snow nearly gone now, but had a fun walk, if I ever ger near my phone, I will post pics later.

Katie

Ps like I said to BuckSnow earlier, I am in a very favoured spot

mickey just suggesting people might enjoy things if they didn't build up massive expectation and take every forecast to literally.

No offence Hammer, nothing wrong with reporting what i see on bbc weather website, or have you banned that from this thread ?

Actually im considering changing my username to 'thiswebsiteissomuchfunletskeepitthatway'

Looks like the cold spell will be replaced Friday, milder from the west. HOWEVER i think that will be very brief and then back to more chances of cold and wintryness

Let's enjoy this cold spell though, still plenty of winter left

In terms of current model output, those saying it definitely will or definitely won't snow tomorrow are both wrong - it's very much borderline!

Current hi-res model going for a rain snow mix - so it's looking likely to boil down to local variations, perhaps a little bit of height, and so on when it comes to what falls out of the sky..

Thanks Paul

And beyond that the cold pool looks like a upgrade on the 6z GFS

850Hpa's are now -7 to -9

Turned very dark last 15 minutes up my Mum's where I'm typing - definitely some wintriness amongst the rain coming down!

Thanks Paul for your contributions to SE/EA thread it is much appreciated.

Usually 24 hours beforehand the 'event' we have a good idea, but yet there is striking variation, some going for it to be mostly in English Channel, whereas others models take PPN northern extent to the Midlands, but with this it's really up for the taking, expect nothing and allow yourself to not be dissapointed :-)

BBC weather app now has me at a max of 3C a drop by 1C. Lovely & bright out there.
