Showers of hail, sleet and snow on Tuesday evening and overnight are likely to leave a covering of snow of 3 - 6 cm in places, especially on ground over 100 m but also locally to lower levels too, whilst 10 cm or so could settle above 300 m. This is most likely to occur in the west of the yellow area, with the high ground of Wales, the moors of SW England, the Mendips and Cotswolds at greatest risk of snow accumulations. A lower risk exists across southeast England early on Wednesday morning. Icy stretches will also form on untreated surfaces. The public should be aware of the risk of tricky driving conditions.

This is an update to extend the warning area further east across southern and southeast England.

Local Authorities affected and associated warning levels

Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Reading, West Berkshire, Wokingham, Southampton, Bracknell Forest, Portsmouth, Surrey, West Sussex, Isle of Wight, East Sussex, Windsor and Maidenhead, Greater London, Kent, Buckinghamshire, Brighton and Hove

3.4oC going by the shed remote sensor this evening, had to nip out earlier and it felt nippy then.  Rain has finally moved on, leaving calmer and clear conditions.

So happy to see some snow on the forecast. Met office says light snow 4-7 and then 7-8 heavy snow. I wonder how accurate it is.

Do you think they'll be enough snow for the schools to have to close?

In a word NO, any settling snow will only be over high ground in The Chilterns etc...

Looks like the downs will get a few cm tonight, I would say about 10-15cm in the most elevated areas, but temperatures are going to be 8-9 tomorrow so I can't see any lying snow lasting long

Some incredible models from the GFS(P) and ECM though, so tonight is just a little taster of what's to come

Tonight, looks like showers will make it into the region.

Temperatures

nmmuk-0-18-0.png?13-18

Look close to freezing

Dew points are around -1C

so the showers should fall as snow, especially over higher ground.

So radar watching, the showers will become more likely to fall as snow as the night progresses. Hope many of you get a dusting. Might even get a little here :)

Don't often post (more of a lurker), I only come out when snow is forecast!

nice to see some heavy snow forecast for my area, hopefully some will settle. We've all been snow deprived for 2 years!
