Firstly I would quit my job.. I would share it with my family and friends, buy a nice house here and one in Praslin or La Digue.

Although the amount mentioned is hypothetical, £8m is not a vast fortune these days and giving most of it away and buying fancy cars or multiple houses sounds like a good way of fritttering it away.

Depends a lot on family circumstance.

Sensibly invested a sum like that could provide a substantial capital backing to several generations.

Knowing there is an underpinning of family wealth is a great way to progress a business because you worry less about taking risks.

And much would depend where you choose to live? Take any larger capital city for example, or more exclusive residential areas where house prices can easily run into several million plus. Adding general cost of living etc it all starts to add up. Of course with this amount you could afford several getaways pretty much anywhere on the globe.

As for any potential business venture, doing something which you enjoy maybe on a slightly grander scale and making a few quid for the privilege would i'd imagine be quite painless. Luxury car club for the well healed perhaps?

It would probably only cost me around £800 grand to get my two houses though, I'm not after no big palaces or big lifestyles.

Seeing as most of us get by on next to nowt anyway, an £800 win would be very nice never mind 8mil.

Perhaps a few thousand would be better spread more widely, because winners could just buy and update a few things without changing their whole life.
There was a program about it not long ago and it was revealing that one guy said he was still the same underneath - and liked beans on toast for tea on Saturday, but everyone else saw him differently and it was difficult to socialise with old friends because suddenly they had so much less in common.
It really is not a simple transition to be suddenly made very wealthy, and can ruin lives in many ways

Yup, seen that happen first-hand - though nothing like to the tune of 'millions'. Maybe I'm destined to be a peasant forever, but I'm happy so long as life isn't a struggle and there's food on the table. Working hard and saving up for something seems to satisfy enough, but that's just me.

For thrill seekers. About 14 grand does give you the ultimate opportunity to strap yourself into a mig type fighter jet, fly supersonic right to the edge of space, experiencing enough G-force to last a life time. Probably about as quick as you can physically go right now or probably before space travel becomes more accessible.

If I won 8 million..

1 million for house and car

1 million spending money

1 million rainy day

1 million divided between family in the form of an annuity for a decade (they'd have to save their wages to cover themselves once that runs out or buy a house)

2 million investment portfolio

1 million purchasing 4 properties and letting them out

1 million of businesses

I would leverage the 1million and buy 10 ,better for tax reasons

£2mil for the family to do whatever they want with it, the rest would be investing in accomodation (buy or build) over in Norway, the winters, northern lights, relatively mild summers, and scenery is what i'd be after. Get myself a music room and stock up on food for 1/4 of the year in winter. Anything else outside of that is just surplus cash to live a 'basic' life from.

I hate the idea of splashing cash out on luxury jets, cruises, champagne breakfasts, etc.

I wonder what £8,000,000 would look like in £50 notes :shok:  I think i would just sit down and just look at it, then maybe the first night i would make a bed out of it and just sleep on it :lazy:
