Lee wind and I'll be corrected if I'm wrong is where winds rise over mountains and then hit colder air aloft. Colder air being dense forces the warmer air back down compressing it and making it stronger. Since it's a rippling effect the conditions can effect a small area or course sudden variations in one place. Like when I said from 10 mph to 50 mph and then back down again.

I thought lee wind was where air movement over obstacles accelerates or twists causing an increase in velocity and vortexes that can do more damage than the wind itself.?

Most of us will be asleep as the cold front moves through but it could produce a significant squall with very gusty winds and a very sharp temp drop behind it.

Highest gust here 77 mph at 340 mts, the highest since December 5th 2013. It's eased off a bit now although there was a sudden gust of 72 mph around 2230.

Appears to be really ramping up here again, many gusts in the mid 50's

A surprise blizzard up here, very wet snow, but it is settling. Wind picking up to and coastal roads being closed.

Winds really getting up here now and the rain has started to batter on the conservatory windows as the squall line heads in.

Radar shows it starting to cross Lancashire so I would expect it to clear my part of the county and head over the Pennines within the next half hour or so.

Currently 11.1c so it will be interesting to see how quickly it falls as the cold front moves through.

Wild here now but hopefully will ease off a bit shortly.

Was pretty lively as the front moved through, winds have now swung westerly and still very gusty.

I cant believe how long this run of stormy weather is looking like continuing. Still I guess it keeps the frost away :)

Exceptional here, power is flickering and there are reports of major structural damage. All flights suspended.
