Looks like a wee beasty. :bomb:

Definitely sting jet potential here, the small hook of cloud beginning to form and wrap around.

Not an expert but I'm pretty certain a sting jet is on the cards going by the developing 'crab claw' it is quite defined too.

Or scorpion tail?

A bit more development needed yet but it is shaping up nicely!

Long way to go but I see the pattern developing towards a sting jet? "Most damaging winds will be emanating from the evaporating tip of the hooked cloud head".(WIKI)

Latest firth of forth wind speeds picking up somewhat...

Winds really picking up over W Ireland, severe gales with gusts 60-70mph with 50mph+ even further inland, gale force even picking up over S Ireland. This is stronger than has been forecast so far.  - http://www.xcweather.co.uk/

I don't care how it's dressed up or which location of the UK you are in, but the people in the NW of Scotland (yes, people do live there and have livelihoods) probably should now be under a red warning. The definition of which is:

"Red: Take action. Extreme weather is expected. Red means you should take action now to keep yourself and others safe from the impact of the weather. Widespread damage, travel and power disruption and risk to life is likely. You must avoid dangerous areas and follow the advice of the emergency services and local authorities."

a) Take action they are

b) Extreme weather is incoming

c) Look out for others

d) Power likely will be out later over vast swathes

e) No driving

f) Disruption guaranteed

I could go on, but these instances are going to happen/happening. Therefore, a red has to be issued particularly if the much talked about Sting jet is appearing. NW Scotland and Orkney are not ghost towns.

A ship: http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/radial_search.php?lat1=59.070N&lon1=11.420W&uom=M&dist=450

makes you wonder why it's not headed to port. It must've had advanced weather charts?

It maybe because it is hitting places overnight, so the impact to life is lower? Power disruption and structural damage risk is still there though.
