Unsurprisingly just rain here with a temp of 2.8C and dewpoint of 2.0C.

Hate these marginal events with northern edge snow as they never deliver here with the onshore breeze, too much warming.

Same here in Bev. 2.6°C  here with sleet, however, this is of the heavy rain variety with the odd flake thrown in!! No wind though: absolutely still.

The suspense is killing me! Great scenes from up north. Waiting for that cold air to rush in during the next few hours.

Can someone fill my little southern head with snow comfort? Its still raining out there, no sign of even sleet. I know the pivot could drift south over the southeast, but can anyone convince me ill see at least something tonight?

Just had a walk to the end of the lane, Very heavy snow continues. Around 5inch so far here, Even the branches are snapping off due to weight of snow.

Rattling on the skylights had died down and precipitation sounds 'quieter'. Temp has dropped to 1.8°C and the DP is now at 0.6°C so I suspect that maybe a change from sleet to snow could be on the cards here. That said, this may have already commenced as the sleet we are having seems to be getting snowier: more flaky when streetlight gazing and the quietness mentioned above. The latter does not appear to be related to intensity of the precipitation looking at the streetlamps!

nothing at all on the ground here either, just wet surface, surprising what a few miles can do

Update: 20:22 (Friday, 26th Dec)

Outbreaks of rain, often heavy, will continue for much of the night across Essex. Winds are expected to strengthen after midnight as the low pressure system clears into the North Sea.

Latest synoptic data from around the United Kingdom shows that the low pressure system responsible is currently heading on an ENE track and is not in-line with either model predictions or Met Office Severe Weather Warnings. The risk of any substantial snow in Essex and bordering counties is now very unlikely.

With colder air expected to follow-on during the early hours of Saturday, rain may well turn to sleet or wet snow in places but will not accumulate for most. The greatest risk of any snow falling remains during daylight hours on Saturday with bands of showers expected to move South and Westwards through the region. Once again, no significant snowfall amounts are expected.

Beyond Saturday, several days of below average temperatures are likely with widespread overnight frosts. A Met Office ‘Cold Weather Alert’ has been issued until Wednesday (31st).

Updates will continue throughout the night on our Twitter feed (@EssexWeather) and the very latest forecasts can be found on our web site below.

It's good to see the mod thread a touch quieter and less picking & poking, even from me!

It's good what a bit of snow can do to cheer folks up isn't it? It has just been wet & horrid here but seeing pics on here and twitter of the snow, have made great viewing. :)

Not really, late minute shifts are always possible, and it isn't the biggest shift ever (50-75 miles?). Also, Essex was never in line for a lot, if we're honest, maybe a dusting...

No it isn't...it's moving SE as expected, the surface pressure charts suggest this!
