What initially started as rain and sleet at 17:15 is just rain now.

Feeling somewhat optimistic for later this evening as the centre of the low pressure drifts south of here and the colder temps dig in behind the precipitation. With the low pressure still close by to SE England and EA tomorrow morning, I expect there to be snow flurries/moderate outbreaks of snow throughout the day.

Keeping tabs on the wind gusts as this gives us a good indication of the pressure dropping/low deepening. Essex, Herts, London, Sussex and Kent could have some damaging NW gales during the early hours as the low pressure exits SE into the Continental Europe. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 70 mph tomorrow 03:00 - 07:00.

If it's any consolation to those who are borderline with the snow, it's 10.2°C and 12mm of rain has fallen.

10.2c :smiliz23: it's 4.6c here with heavy rain, shall check again at 2.00am, or will it all be over by then! :unknw: Made too many parsnips, they are going to out last the turkey at this rate, :fool:  might make them into soup!

The warm sector will love away over night, any more wintry stuff down here will be 8pm onwards at least. Fergie mentioned earlier that even south of the m4 could see something tonight, so don't write it off yet.

love away :cc_confused:

Fair coming down here, it's an absolute whiteout and I've already heard of an accident in the village. Be careful out there people!!

As I suspected it moved over me too quickly for it to turn to snow, it has now cleared away and some very nice snow pictures coming in on Facebook of places further inland than I am. The A55 near Quensferry for example bellow

I'm happy for those of you who will get something from this, our patience as coldies beginning to be rewarded. Hope is January for the rest of us to be rewarded.

More of a chance for us tomorrow with the showers of the Irish Sea hopefully!! BBC weather graphics at 6.15 looked quite good for us!

It is trend was to take the front northwards and the snow risk northwards.

This had a double effect

1. To push the snow zone further north

2. To extend the warm sector further north.

If anyones getting giant flakes as has recently been reported, please try and take some pics. thanks

The flakes here are a more normal size now. We had a 5-10 minute period of absolute monsters though. Didn't think to take a photo, sorry!

I wouldn't be surprised to see our warning get upgraded, we have most of the snow still to come and these flakes are ridiculous.

Just been told that main roads around the town centre are covered and taxis have now stopped picking up, and we've still got loads to come!

Local roads are horrendous, cars can't get up/down hills - looks like the gritters haven't been out at all. We had flakes bigger than a £2 coin, beautiful to see. We've had approx 4cm in less than a hour!!
