looking into my crystal ball and looking at patterns across western Canada im going for a very cold and potentially snowy spell esp in the east somewhere more likely from about the 8-10th onwards....1.3c

its a 4.3C for me.

A couple of colder spells but a mild spell will undo anything significantly colder.

6.4C for me please..... the cold will arrive at the end of the month to dilute what will have been hitherto a very mild one. I'm contemplating a 1.2C guess for Feb though.....

I think you mean 1834, Roger, than 1934 for 4th warmest.

Thanks kind sir for the heads up, fixed thanks to the never-ending edit we now have.

I might want to use that again here -- will punt at 2.5 C for the time being, expecting a bit of a wild ride in January.

Still dithering on this, if the outputs start to show a consistent Scandi high signal then I may have to put in an obscene January CET estimate.

With the stratospheric not really looking to warm significantly until at least the 5th-10th January I see no reason to suspect that a change from December's mixture of westerly and mid latitude blocking will occur as I don't see any sustained cold coming before the last third of January.

5.4C.

Looks like a winter 2012 CET pattern to me though hopefully Feb will be cooler.

Going by the models (what use they are) it looks like being Atlantic dominated but a fair amount of cool/cold zonality thrown in - a bit like the first half of this month so: 5.4c

I would love to stick to my forecast, except it's not running too well at the moment. Any strat led effects look like being from mid January onwards and the pressure pattern before then suggests temperatures slightly above average. So a near normal 3.8C
