I was reading about how the Chinese government is they manage to secure the winter Olympics in Beijing in 2022 will dam rivers to make snow... oh dear, it sounds a disaster and for this reason alone I hope they don't win the vote..

It does seem quite ludicrous that a virtually snow free albeit cold city could be in with a shout of getting the games.

They will no doubt probably try to induce snowfall by producing water vapour to aid cloud formation....

China snow strands 'nearly 100,000' at Guangzhou station

"Heavy snow has disrupted public transport in China, stranding tens of thousands of people outside a rail station in south, police say. The crowd outside Guangzhou station swelled to nearly 100,000 at its peak on Monday night, police said.

Central China has experienced some of its coldest weather in years. The rare snow has coincided with the run-up to Chinese New Year - where hundreds of millions of migrant workers travel home to see their families."

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
