This potential for Thursday IMO, has similar potential for the UK as the St. Judes day storm, which I think was always completely over hyped.

But certainly one to watch this evening, with the potential for some decent winds to high the populated south-east of England

Below is GFS 925s but it doesn't develop the low as per other solutions

Indeed winds are starting to gust a fair bit in Central Leeds. Most forecasts I've seen give peak gusts around here for a few hours after midnight.

Might be a sleepless night the wind ain't half howling around the house !

Malin Head has recorded a gust to 74mph, highest so far I think away from elevation.

Quieter night to the South compared to up north, still windy though 18mph, gusting 31mph.

Windier than I expected. Windows being buffeted - the curse of having west-facing living room windows.

Except that it gave 120 odd mph gusts in Denmark and hurricane force gusts over the east (and non coastal parts) of East Anglia... Would you rather the Met Office had said zilch then?

I was referring to the UK, it exploded in the North Sea alright.

there are 'hurricane force gusts' in Malin Head right now....

It is not correct to term gusts >74mph as hurricane force

It would totally devalue the term.

The St Judes storm certainly wasn't overhyped here. We had 9 trees down, the local golf club had over 50 trees down and my village was cut off for 3 days.

Did you not read my post properly?  :blink2: I'm failing to understand the whole of your response tbh.

That is some pressure gradient to the North West.

Incredible pressure difference in such a short mile radius. Stormy is an understatement

If you mean the tightness of the isobars off shore then that is simply because the Buoy(arrow on the far top left) is showing a pressure of 980MB but believe you me, the isobars are not as tight as that though, its because they can't fit all the lines spreaded out on the page really.

Looking increasingly interesting for southern England for Thursday night/ Friday AM

Looks a pretty innocuous feature at first but is developing quickly and has an intense jet aloft

GFS yet to get a good handle on this I suspect and still throwing up potential for gusts to 55/60kt for central/southern England early Friday morning

Nothing really of note here max gust 48 mph before and after midnight. All eyes on the next low depending on the track and intensity may yet provide the most windy day of the week. Looks like it certainly will for the south. For us it looks like we will miss out even on the white stuff on the northern flank.
