Mysterious bangs heard all over the country....

Recommended Posts

It's probably the sound of all the changers the Mail, Express and other papers have dropped with the worst winter in a gazillion years headlines.

That rather poor recording sounds remarkably like distant like fireworks.
Meteorites can create bangs as they break up.

There was this too but during the day

I don't think closig the A1 would be done lightly, it must have been a 'real' bang!

It does sound like fireworks but was apparently heard all the way from Scotland down to Sussex and the West Country at the same time.

I thought it might have been meteorites too.

Heard quite a few bangs over the last few days, usually in groups. Sounded to me like shotguns at our local clay pigeon club, we hear them quite often if conditions are right. Misty low inversion with a light breeze and sound carries and reverberates over many miles in some cases.

There again: it could be them!

aliens had been dormant in underground pods since before the beginning of time,

they have received the signal and are reactivating and bursting out of triangle shaped eggs,

Heard one and then a slight shake (possibly the sound wave causing that though).

I imagine it was a meteor.

I definitely heard an rumbling something like that last night - not heard something like it in my life.

At the time I never thought much of it, just can't put my finger on it?

also the "mystery explosion" near Catterick up and the down the country has reported similar sounds.

Nobody panic, it's just exploding hedgehogs, very common this time of year, something to do with hibernation! I just heard two bangs five minutes ago! :shok::bomb:

I was near Basingstoke last night and we did hear some bangs that sounded like fireworks, but this was earlier on around 6ish.  A little strange.......

I heard these as well last night, sounded like an organised fireworks display in the area sometime after 9 pm ? lasted maybe a minuet or two. Did think it was a bit odd for fireworks this time of year ?

Hi guys,

Also heard the same noise here.

Assumed that it was the start of an XMas party with fireworks.

Both the wife and myself heard it for about 2 minutes sitting in the lounge and in a double glazed room so it was real loud here. I dashed outside just as it faded away. Couldn't explain it.

I have just played the tele recording above and it is identical. Impulse engine hey!

MIA

Edit it was timed at 21:45.

Perhaps the cool, still atmospheric conditions allowed the sounds of fireworks displays to carry a bit farther locally. Doesn't explain why they appear to have been heard almost the length of the country, though.

It's definitely not a sonic boom.
