Latest EURO4 for what its worth

It really comes down to now casting now.

Looks like quite a big upgrade for lower levels doesn't it J10? As you saw though- all down to nowcasting- even if conditions are good for snow, it means nothing if the showers are a miss! Hoping for some reverse psychology here :p

Anecdotally I can say that, when we had that event 2 years ago, we had to wait until 3 am for temps to drop sufficiently.

My experience today is that it's dropped way faster than that event and, faster than expected.

We've had more snow knocking round than was forecast already.

So, on that basis, we may well get a better even tonight than expected.

Had some flashes of lightning in the Amman Valley alongside a heavy soft hail which turned to snow shower about 15 mins ago. Snow settled here on all surfaces but melts quickly on tar/concrete but this should change as the temp drops later. Currently hovering around -0.1 now so won't be long :)

Some hefty showers in there and in the heavier showers, quite possibly snow,, while perhaps less wintry in the lighter precipitation.

It really comes down to now casting now.

Those charts and the Met Office app on my phone suggest the development of something a bit more widespread/organised moving across SW England and hitting SE Wales in the early hours. Possibly something to keep an eye on...

Though anything could happen anywhere in these conditions.

Good luck all.

Because although the winds over Wales are from the WSW the air originated over Canada a very cold source, it is called returning Polar Maritime air.

This is why after the storm moves through more of a N westerly is better for our snow chances, still Saturday possible of more general snow moving down from the N West.

The lightning is visible over big distances this evening, the stuff I saw was 30 miles away but very bright!

All quiet in AberG. Was an interesting drive from Garnlydan to Crickhowell. Really chucking it down up there.
