knife edge stuff - track of the two lows is gonna be interesting for tomorrow into sunday as to whether Wales gets into the snow game or not

I think it's gonna be too warm Saturday Andy, it looks like the low is coming in a little too far north for us and we are not getting into the cold winds/air. Obviously do not need a lot of deviation to allow the colder air but you would have thought the forecasters would be pretty close to the track at this close range?

Sunday looks too dry and next week looks to be benign for us.... they are saying cold but it doesn't look that cold, more average.

latest brockway video forecast showing snow for south wales starting tonight - as the low passes through it will begin to drag a little colder - north easterly based air into the mix allowing more of the rain to turn to snow before it departs - on the gfs mind you it keeps it just in south wales until sunday morning - we shall see - all depends on the actual track itself

To be specific, it was "all change to rain and snow". Which, given our poor record in these kind of events over the last four or five years and the underwhelming model output for next week, is not something we should get too excited about at this stage.

Met office spot on for Tredegar. Currently 1.2c and snowing. It's sticking too which is surprising as at 7am it was pouring with rain!

As expected, nothing from this 'cold' spell - not even cold - average temps!

Mild coming through midweek as well, give up now - held out a little hope with it fluctuating so much, but not anymore.

Look for some spring temps now rather than damp, grey average rubbish.

Looks like only snow on the very top of Pen Y Fan which is a bit surprising

We got the dreaded drip drip now. Yes I was surprised Dowlais had no snow too. Very marginal.  Met office say snow all day but not showing on radar unless that band pivots.

Gritter just gone down my street and we wonder why councils have no money. It's drizzling, not even cold (4.5 °C ).

Things still not looking good for the last chances of real snow as we close February out - these winters are getting worse.

Rain, just as Met Office predicted. :(

Such a shame. 3rd Snowless Winter in a row. Still time though, I'll never give up the hunt and there's always next year. We will have 6 foot drifts again, we will see blizzards. Lol

On another note. Come on Wales. Not the first half I wanted to see in this game against Scotland.

Cymru Am Byth! We seem to love playing catch up rugby.

meanwhile across the pond their third successive polar vertex is causing temperatures to drop overnight to approx -34c. We can only wish! But that is a bit TOO COLD.

well it seems GFS has backtracked on itself now and is showing snow potential for east of Wales mid-week. Time to watch is from Wednesday night 0000 until 0600am Thursday. I would take it with a hint of caution as it may just end up as wet snow or very cold rain, but we cerrtainly are back in the running for a snow event.

From Model Output Discussions

Consistently starting to be modelled across most models now is the threat of Weds rain to turn to sleet/snow towards the backedge of the front through Weds night and into Thursday, even across Central Southern England and into SE. Most likely to settle over elevation further north as Steve Murr alluded too with his cat & fiddle prediction.  Here is a look at the Weather Online charts view of the Precip through Weds and into Thurs.
