From Model Discussions (Steve Murr) this morning in last few moments:

Quote

'still the prospect of snow around this weekend -

This needs to watched - i mentioned yesterday the deep low & energy dropping SE across to the continent -

The GFS has somewhat backtracked towards this - however there would need to be some more corrections to get a snow event across the UK'

Yep after some wintriness during the afternoon by 8pm it was as you say sodding raining again. But the hills and mountains around have a nice white overcoat again now.

It happens everytime. Just when it looks as though the snow is within our grasp, whoosh and it's gone.

If we're lucky we may get a little sleet here, not looking like much else, unfortunately.

Lets get the cold air in place first ,then we can look for some snow (after all this cold spell was no were to be seen on all charts until a few days ago),colder air kicks in on Friday which will last for at least 7days ,with cold -8 uppers forecasted for next week.So then we can look for a LP attacking from the west,so lets try to be positive about the coldest spell of the winter ,because we all deserve a respite from all this rain!

I think we'd all better wrap up from the 17th onwards. Netweather is forecasting temps of -50c up until 23rd. Lol.
