Just been to Westhill swimming pool with the youngest. A lot more lying snow there than here, or even just outside Westhill. The nature of showers I suppose, one of which I missed whilst out so garden looking a little whiter than when I left. Not in measuring range yet.

Afternoon Kilted Ones! Well what happened yesterday? It was absolutely freezin' yesterday afternoon wi' that wind, but then we had a max temp of 4.4c. :unknw:  Then we had a wee fall of the graupelly stuff overnight which made everything look braw! Just a few cm's but the cats love rolling around on it...idiots! And now it's snowing again, temp 0.8c, very light winds, humidity 43%. It looks lovely and isn't really that cold outside either so may take myself out for a wee stretch o' the legs in a wee while.

Just back from a family wedding in Glasgow so I haven't had much chance to look at the charts this weekend but the NAE looks reasonable for snow for central areas:

GFS has this coming in a bit later, through Tuesday morning, and if I'm not mistaken this is suggesting that the snow shield over fort Edo will finally be broken  :

Longer term also looks pretty interesting, a UK high at the very worst isn't a bad thing by any means and with the MJO heading into 7-8-1 properly for the first time then I suspect any mid lat high would more likely be a 'riser', to Scandinavia or Greenland, rather than a sinker, so all to play for through the the rest of February.

Lots of rain and wet snow last night to give a very frozen crust on the ground, gives a good crunch with every step! Went for a walk up the hill and caught this good photo as a heavy shower was moving in.

When I was watching the ECM this morning before work it did look around mid-run that the high was going to have a sniff at Greenland but it then changed its mind. I don't mind a few days or a week of an anti-cyclone as it's a change from what we've had. That high has been an utter limpet for so long now, it could do with going on holiday somewhere else and there's worse places than sitting on top of us.

The blob made it through!

A 5 minute, blink and you'll miss it snow flurry, which must have delivered a good 20 flakes before it chucked it.

We live in hope of more snaw action this Tuesday.

Another braw, crisp, cold & bright day today. Max 3.3C.

Currently, 0.6C/-6C. Very dry air.

'Mon the blobs!

Ouch, once the high pressure swings towards us it's going to be a bit of a snoozefest for around a week. We'll need to find something else to discuss to pass the time once the high's here. Any ideas? Ballroom dancing?

Ed, book yourselves in to somewhere in the Highlands with a bit of altitude for a few days.  Best take avalanche probes to find the weans in case they venture off piste...

Seriously, although I grump on about the lack of snow, most of the Highlands away from the coast has a good cover. Tell the school / nursery it's an educational trip...

Best Winter here since 2010/11. Absolutely brilliant December and January with two notable severe gale events, 16 days with snow on the ground, lost count of the air/ground frosts number.

Another week of cold weather ahead with a good chance of another few cm's tomorrow night - heading up to the Cairngorms for a bit of boarding next weekend - Scottish Winter in all its glory from home to the Highlands!

COME ON ANDY!!!!!!!!

Aye, snow cover is surviving well in rural South Lanarkshire.  Nearly all gone here.

Turned down an offer of a trip north today in favour of a 'short' local-ish walk in the Lowther Hills, but it was such a nice day I just kept on going!

hi Ed you don't need to go too far to get snow. just pop up to Dunkeld and take the high road over to Crieff or Aberfeldy. Plenty snow around Amulree with drifting yesterday.

I see there's an interesting spell of snow spreading southwards from the far north tomorrow evening/early Tuesday. What's the general thoughts on this? ...something to keep an eye on?
