A dusting on the top of Arthur's Seat and Blackford Hill now so snow line starting to push down a bit with each shower.

Hard to tell where each line of showers will land tonight, seems to be that they'll generally work themselves NW-SE over the country with a period of about 2-3 hours before the next line works its way in:

The Borders looks like it'll do very well but fine margins here - slightly more of a straight westerly  flow and the central belt right through to the Forth will be the main beneficiaries. Been a fairly consistent signal from the NMM for this band to work its way into Tayside and North Fife overnight too:

Almost tempted to go on a snow hunt this afternoon on the Borders this afternoon, although I'm not sure there's likely to be that much lying at road level there either just yet.

There appears to be a wee gap in the activity. I presume the proper snow will come later.

The first that I noticed of any snow this morning at KB in Edinburgh was 9.45. Been snowing on and off ever since but not lying except the hills as LS said. Just left on the train back to Grangemouth and it's sunny just now, although not for long going by the dark clouds to the west.

Actually just seen the rada r and looks dry for the next little while which might not be a bad thing as it will hopefully along with the wind help dry things out a little bit so that there is more chance of the next shower starting to stick

Flighton.. I am getting twitchy about this as well, but will reserve judgement. If the temperature drops late afternoon it might be good. I don't think there will be proper snow until after 5pm. Originally I thought we would all have a covering by now though!

Well Jellybaby thus far yes it has been a let down. I am worried the showers are now more scattered. Might be that the event wil be later tonight instead though.

Afternoon all,

Odd very light shower in St Andrews, currently 3c/0c.

I wouldn't worry yet folks - the colder air is not due until this afternoon and it will be then that we should start to see snow accumulate to lower levels.

Here in NE Fife I'm confident the snowshield will hold. Last measurable snowfall in Crail was Dec 2010 (as many of you know  ). Would be surprised if anything makes it this far but hey, you never know. Dundee should at least see a couple of cms I would have thought, St Andrews perhaps a covering.

Good luck everyone.

Well had the first flakes of blowing snow at 9.45am right by the East Lothian coast:) I was out and about later and it was snow showers right over at Dalkeith /Sheriffhall roundabout then gets brighter to the Far East heading to tranent bypass.

Now back home & Suns out.

Really blizzarding away here at the moment - I decided that I deserved an afternoon's snow hunt after days of lab reports so I'm on the bus near the bypass at the moment, settling on the grass up here.

Very light snow in Aberdeen just now :-)

Yeah, minor breach in the Cairngorms snow shield means it's snowing lightly in Dyce too. Looks like it will only be a brief flurry from looking at the radar.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
