I can only assume timing is the reason for lack of red warning?

Sounds very dangerous out there, hopefully people took notice of the warnings and are indoors. Have the really strong winds moved through, or is there worse to come?

Worse to come I think, peak around 3am-6am. Winds up north are far worse though. Gusts in parts not far off 100mph!

I can see it from my back garden, now this wind turbine is one of the biggest in the world so the you can imagine the flex on the tip of blade at the highest point which is 195 m. pretty scary!

Not fit for purpose. Get some photos tomorrow... I'm loving it.

I think if this had occurred during the morning rush hour then there would have been a red warning. Even still, there will still be some people venturing during the storm, particularly lorry drivers, and even if people aren't outside during the night, people indoors in the worst affected areas are still at risk.

I agree, not sure if it is the perspective of overnight peak i.e strongest gusts in the wee small hours or not.

Certainly sounds more violent out there than other recent windstorms.

Must be, also it impacts fewer people, but I've seen red warnings for far less severe/life threatening than this (to be clear, not suggesting that those weren't necessarily merited given the potential severity) - 6 inches of snow in Edinburgh, on a Sunday, for example.

Not sure how much extra impact it would've had relative to an orange warning but anything to alert people to the potential dangers.

Certainly, sustained winds up there above storm force now and close to hurricane at times, which is pretty extreme.

Strongest gusts I've ever experienced here in Monikie now. Has been building in intensity all night. No thunder/lightning but enough rain mixed in to make sleep difficult with all the noise.

There's going to be some insurances claims in the morning for sure - and this is tame compared to up north!

Stay safe people.

House is literally shaking here, gusting now up to 86mph, I don't think the trees here (some very large and old) can take much more. First time I've found the weather a bit scary in many a year! Any of the other Inverness / Moy / Black Isle folk here?

97mph in Stornoway now.

Relatively calm here now that it's veered between west and southwest.  In the region of 35mph.  We're protected from straight westerlies.....so I'll probably be able to sleep now!

G'night and stay safe, everyone.

Milkmaid has been forced to make a run for it as the roof is gonna go with 3 of them stuck in the house she's calling 999 to help as she also has 2 dogs there.

Edited: she's been told to stay put by the police don't think even they can risk it either
