It is almost embarrassing now how much the forecasts and models

keep changing.

I think it is going to be poor with not much snow.

Always downgrades nearer the event it seems.

Well MetO have issued alerts but only for Scotland.

So either they're confident our area doesn't need a warning, or they're still not confident enough with location/accumulations yet to give out warnings for here.

Classic.

Half a billion pounds worth of world class supercomputer and there is still significant uncertainty 24 hours away.

Does make me chuckle. I understand the complexities though in reality.

A few snow showers here this afternoon. Nothing significant or heavy enough to settle but still refreshing to see  :good:   :cold:

Eagerly awaiting the 12z. Will be interesting to see if the GFS changes it's tune.

All over the shop, BBC now saying heavy snow for Nottingham tomorrow night LOL

When you say the BBC, do you mean an actual BBC TV forecast?

Or do you mean the BBC's algorithmic not-a-forecast?   (the pictures on their website)  Which is not quite the same thing :)

This might sound a bit rude but do posters not understand that the automated forecasts will change with every new run of data- all this talk, and drama, about changing symbols is a bit crazy.

As far as I can see, nothing has changed. There could be a heavy snowfall somewhere in our region-  no more detail is really possible and it wont be possible until very close to the event when the radar and ground reports will give a good idea of what happens. The boxing day event unfolded slightly differently to how the models had suggested and that only became clear when the radar suggested that everything would push through 40 miles further than expected.

Yes crazy, but no harm done. Just a bit of fun for everybody. After all it is a weather forum, if no one posted anything till the event actually arrived, it'd be a bit boring!
