Interesting so far today, temperature dropped from 4.6C to 2.1C between 12.19 and 12.56 here in Dudley, coinciding with a sleet/snow shower with quite large flakes.  It's not accumulated, just making the ground wet.  The shower was heavy for around 15 minutes and was mostly snow.

Also hello everyone, been a long time since I was on here (that long I needed to create a new account!).  Been reading as a guest for quite a while now but figured I should join in.

A classic example of a marginal situation in the last couple of hours.

Sleet falling at 140m but, as I drove home up the hill, at  210m it was 100% snow. By 280m there was a thin cover on the grass and cars and above 300m the ground was white over.

It's stopped snowing now and the temp' is 0.7c.

Welcome to the site, dudleyweather. It's great to have you on board. :) Definitely chose an interesting day to re-join the forum.

Hopefully some further wintry chances later on for those who want it. At least the brief spell of sleet/wet snow earlier should have weakened some of the snow shields around the region and provide better chances of any further showers or longer spells of precipitation being of snow. Especially with -5*C 850 hPa temperatures getting into the mix this evening and into tomorrow morning.

Although we had wet snow, at 50m higher elevation the hills are white. We are at 93asl, so snow line pretty low.

Lol Bish, you are a wag! (Not the 'Wives and Girlfriends' variety obviously!)

Seem to have been upgraded to an Amber warning for snow on the MetO site. Bring it on!

Well, from here I can see the southern Welsh mountains and they are white with snow! Here blue skies with some cloud, and dry for now.

shhhh Arnie, don't jinx it!

Seriously though, the radar does look pretty juicy for later on. Just need this colder air to get nicely embedded, then away we go :)

Well I was shocked to see fairly heavy sleet lunchtime here in Birmingham city centre, wasn't expecting anything wintry until later.

On basis that this was at 1pm and a warmer part of the day, I'd suspect anything falling after dark to be of snow.

First post of the year, finally had some wintriness here around lunchtime though none settled and was in work so missed the excitement.

Home now though with dark skies to the west, hopefully the rain shadow curse will die off for once!

hi bish, dyou mean that coming thru Wales now??

Yep, plus the various showers lining up to the south of Ireland as well - those should hopefully be headed our way later this evening, if they can stay intact :)
