Just hoping none of those showers produces a single, solitary, half-melted snowflake!  Even in Evesham I've never experienced an entirely snowflake-free calendar year before :D    And I would hate to have to go through it all again .......

just light sleet here, you'll not see a flake, assuming your elevation is lowish

Looking on the bright side. This is still a better start to winter than the last 2 years (possibly 3 years...can't remember what happened December 2011!). For here anyway...don't think I can speak for everyone as I think some of you had an OK start to December 2012.

Had 2 ice days in December 2012.

Extension cable.

Hairdryer.

Snow showers trying to stick in the heavier bursts, but goes as soon as it eases off. The Roads and paths are like rivers in places. Get down temperature! The lying snow curse is vanquished, but the other 2014 curse isnt- the non dropping temperature one. Cold air, snow, clear skies at night, none of them can produce a decent, lasting frost this year. All that water needs to freeze or itll just be a slushfest.

Typical, now the showers have all moved into the region the winds are turning to the north so they are all sliding 5 miles west :cray: .

Just got back in from shopping.

Rain showers started here about 12:45 and have been an and off since.

Temperature fell a bit during one of the heavier ones and a few pieces of blob on the car windscreen.

Hopefully if hrewsbury and East wales are now seeing snow showers they may get this way befoe dark.

Temp now 3.7C

Sleety showers coming through and temp fallen back to 2C. Hills in south Shropshire have white tops and Clee Hill snowy for several hundred feet. Might get lucky as winds turn to north and temps fall further.

Average depth from 10 measurements at 0900 was 21.5 cm. Allowing for a bit of compaction once it had stopped there was probably a cm more than that just after midnight.

28.2 mm of 'rain' once it was melted from the gauge.

DWWW and Bish

Yep steady rain around here (and dull)

However temp is falling currently 2.7C and dewpoint is 01C so still might see a flake before it finishes.

Bjut it looks like the other side of Brum have stolen it this time.

So disappointed that these showers have been mostly of rain (perhaps a hint of sleetiness during the heavier bursts at best). I think the above-freezing dew points here have been the culprit and ensured that the blasted snow shield remained undefeated.

What a miserable end to the day, was expecting plenty of sunshine and clearing skies for tonight but slate grey skies/murk once again.

I wonder if that precipitation coming in from the east, will pepp up and give us a surprise snowfall?

It's going to converge right in the middle of the Midlands and the 850s look good?

It is intensifying!

I love your optimism but aren't winds turning northerly?

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
