Snowing again here, got a covering but it's very "wet", roads will be bad if it does freeze

More snow than we saw all last winter but don't think we'll need the shovel :(

Interestingly, the area of precipitation over North-Eastern Wales (circled in black on the Netweather radar image below) seems to be sinking South-South-East/South-East. Might perhaps bring some wintry stuff back towards some places before the system clears away for good.

7cm measured outside about 20 minutes ago and it's still snowing outside. Took an hour and 15 minutes to get from one side of town to the other, as I got stuck on the hill. A1 is covered in snow as well as every road in town, and it looks like no gritting has taken place. It is brilliant to have snow for the first time in 17 months though.

Sometimes things pep up out of nowhere, remember that snowfall in 2012 where nothing was forecast for the Midlands and all of a sudden the radar just blossomed and we had 6-8" of snow! Them were the days!

I just hope the weather's not been re-set of 90s/00's type winters, where we'd chase northerly topplers and if it did snow, it was only 1cm deep and melted before morning.

Tbh, it does feel like that this year :-(

temp going up even more here! toasty 7 degrees...

Bizarre really.

We are 15miles away and the temperature is dropping steadily. Its now down to 0.7C. Are you sure you havn't misread?   (LOL)

This low seems to be carrying huge variations within its circulation.

By the way the pressure here is still falling. and the grauple is flying around in the NE wind..

Snow here too, but light. The precipitation to the north is spreading southeastwards, hopefully it's be a darling and 'pepp' up.

No, the back edge stuff is mainly of rain as the evaporative cooling effect is lost, and a westerly element to the wind is attained.

It's been sleeting here for over an hour, lightly as the temperature has rose. We're up to 1.3C now, the dewpoint is creeping higher and higher. We had 2 inches, a little more on the grass. Fantastic stuff, but the back edge is rain/sleet.

Nice to see PolarWarsaw got some good snowfall, he's had some rotten luck in recent winters.

The temperature seems to be dropping very rapidly now, down from 4.1°C to 3.0°C inside the past thirty minutes. Could be extremely icy in the morning.

Bish

Cheers Bish,

How have you been? I'm used to replying to you in the cricket thread! Topped out with around 4-5CM of snow, ruined by a short period of sleet and then nicely re-covered by a period of huge flakes lasting 20 or so minutes.

Here's hoping it won't be another 2 years before we see it again!

Ah, fair enough! Shame about that, but does look as though some of you guys up North have done well with the snow in general.

Just been out to test it

Compacts easily but goes icy a bit too quickly, about a 7/10 on the snowball scale :smiliz19:

No I wasn't misreading, wellesbourne airfield was reporting the same. Finally dropping a bit again now but not cold enough for snow, I just wanted to see a flake after a snowless winter last year!

We've done brilliantly man! Much better than expected, the Met Office were bang on with their prediction today, so fair play to them. It started much earlier than I expected too!

Could it have been power lines going down?  The wet snow is really accumulating on telegraph wires & tree branches

Could well be power lines, the telephone lines outside the bedroom window are lower than the window here, caked in a good few cm of ice.Looks like they could snap anytime soon.and still the snow continues to fall.
