After 5 hours of snow, most of it heavy, we now have sleet and rain here in South Liverpool but what a lovely surprise it was to see it earlier!  Biggest flakes we've seen for years, unexpectedly sticking and building up to over an inch!  Hope you all got some of it!

Backtrack. Will we see anymore in Liverpool ??

Yes :) it may fall as rain though, I'm unsure, Met Office say rain.

Any more for Manc airport backtrack you seem to know your stuff

Should still be snowing over Manchester airport now?

A small area developing behind what we have now, won't be as heavy but I'd expect more on and off for the next few hours.

I bet by the end of the night it will be very icy.

an interesting comparison of 15m asl (by the river) and 100m asl a little further away.

I think the snow is turning back to the wet stuff now. It was good while it lasted do so say myself.

It's not sticking. Wet snow only. Slush on car windows. It is amazing the difference between preston and chorley.

Yes it had now turned to drizzle and the wind had turned NNW.. the sea air is melting it very fast

You can tell how much of this was evaporative cooling, it's melting pretty quickly and it's now raining.

I think to be honest it was a wind direction change, though evap cooling had some say.. it's no accident the change in wind direction from E-ENE to N and even NNW in some parts, has resulted in a change of air temperature.

Still snowing and blowing about a bit but looking at the radar, the clearance should be with us in the next hour or so.

We just need the colder air to dig in then so we can keep the cover ready for hopefully topping up by tomorrow's showers.
