If the Met Office forecast for overnight goes to plan then many of us could see at least a covering of snow by daylight tomorrow and maybe a top up during the morning.

As usual with showers though, some may get a pasting while a few miles away it stays dry.

Temperature is up and down at present, currently 2.7c.

Too much sea modification here for snow, the wind is averaging 18mph, so in general temperatures will not fall much below 5C tonight, even in showers.

Currently 5.2C with frequent rain showers.

Just had a very heavy hail shower which turned into wet snow.. Very gusty too.

Looking at the radar, the showers are well scattered across the region but some of them do look quite beefy.

We've had a few in the last couple of hours but they pass through before they can pull the temperatures down so at best it is a sleety mixture.

Think it's later during the night that a more organised bunch of showers will pass through the region. Some of us with a bit of altitude could wake with a surprise Edited by lancs_northants

The Met Office call for snow above 200-300M. Looking at the stations around NW England, no where is below 4C. It's just too mild. With the flow being as strong as it is, I think sea modification will limit snow to Pennine areas. Not to put a dampener on anyone's mood, but it's not looking good, even with the uppers in place. -5C uppers just aren't enough for our region much of the time, we need -7/-8's ideally.

I'm 5 mins drive from winter hill.. Got some altitude here.. Could be one of the lucky ones

I have to agree the temperature this afternoon was lower than it is now and like you say with the strength of the wind it isn't likely to fall that much during the night.

Hail showers on and off all day - none lasting more than 5 minutes mind. Temps currently 4 degrees where they have been all day. Mmm not sure if we will catch a snow showers overnight, we need some long lasting heavy precipitation to bring temps down aided by evaporative cooling, if we just see 5 minute showers then chances look slim indeed.

Would be nice to wake up to a dusting, but expectations are low.

Was certainly wintry today, was freezing bitter cold up at Deepdale shopping centre in preston, heft hail showers, sleet and a bit of snow. Same in leyland.

A little bit of a lull from the Irish Sea over the past couple of hours. Seems to be some developing activity now though, also interestingly, a lot of transferring energy from Ireland. The next few hours and into the morning period look interesting from an instability point of view. Temperatures steady/slowly rising so still little snow risk unfortunately.

Continuous mixture between hail and sleet, pavements covered with slushy melting hail. I'm at 150m just wish I was that bit further elevated.

Yes pretty much the same here, wet slush, it's more of a sleety mix than the rain earlier - temps gone down to 3c.  Just had a lightning flash and thunder.
