Same in Aycliffe, I'm not usually scared of storms but this one is very menacing!

Yeah looks like it will miss us though radar is keeping the rain out west

Worst of the storm just leaving Bishop, Newcastle is in line for a direct hit

Seems to have taken more of a north easterly track once it passed Darlington

I am in Gateshead and was seriously worried about the size of the hail about 2cm across.  The lightning wasn't as dramatic as earlier.  Will try and upload any good images.

Why anyone would wish to be under a big storm is just plain mad to me. Perfectly summed up by tonight's supercell as it tore through Sacriston.

Huge hailstones, cars damaged, lights smashed, houses damaged and undoubtedly thousands of pounds of insurance damage to pay out, which we all have to pay for. Not to mention the damage done to wildlife.

Be careful what you wish for.

Seems to have missed Washington by just a few miles then. Saw a few flashes of lightening out your way though.

Those storms to the South West need to be watched, they look on course to hit some of us again!

I'm considering driving out west if they look like missing here. Just hope they hold it together as they make their way over the Pennines.

That earlier storm was impressive, large hail by UK standards. Brought back memories of chasing in the USA hearing the noise of them thumping the car roofs. No damage done though.

Flashes and thunder to my south east! That storm over Teesside appeared from nowhere!

That must be a good sign for the other approaching storms, still loads of energy to work with :)

Think I might head out soon for a good viewpoint and try to get some photos.

These are what came down in the last one. I didn't know whether to film, get the cat in or fix a G&T.

I can hear distant thunder again. Would that huge lump over the north west be coming our way already?

Then flashes out towards the west are spectacular. Are they due to hit here. Looks like heat lighterning it's that consistent.
