Horrendous conditions up here on the coast of NE England. Hail, sleet and snow blowing quickly through on a very strong Nor'westerly, gusts around 40mph currently.

The showers (rain no hail or snow as yet) are rattling through frequently now in Darlington with the strong and gusty wind, just a good job most trees are not in leaf yet otherwise it could have caused some serious problems in places

Just had a moderate-heavy hail shower, seeing the dark band of cloud I kind of expected it to be quite torrential in truth but the heaviest pulse must of just missed me. Still interesting nonetheless.

No snowflakes to report though sadly but I do enjoy these proper sunshine and shower set ups!

Its like April showers and March winds combined into one today! a right old mix

big hail shower just passed through here... started as sleety rain, blizzard like hail for 5 mins before snow on its back edge as temp dropped from 7.c to just above 1.c also a slight covering on grass, cars etc now melting.

Some shower that was as wind really picked up.

may be quite icy in some places tonight after showers and a surprise slight covering for a lucky few on hills

Another vile day, unless you never venture out.

Horrible winds, fence eventually succumbed and we've just had a heavyish snow shower.

Getting fed up with the climate here, November- March and onwards into April and temperatures struggle to make double figures, stuck in a range 5-10C for at least half the year, not much use for outdoor activities. Where's this global warming? Seems to be getting colder here. Whinge over.

A brrr day here with a very gusty cold wind - felt like a mid winter day. Heavy hail/sleet showers on and off mostly shortlived. However, the south lakes seem to have escaped many of the potent ones, and the snowline was high this evening, about 600m, not indicative it is too mild, simply the showers have been fleeting in nature. Expecting  a much lower snowline tomorrow morning if we manage some heavy snow showers. Very disappointing temperatures again, spring is on hold.

I tell you what, the 31st was a pretty impressive day in terms of weather. After a pretty dire winter and a seemingly endless period of "nothingness", the intensity and nature of the wintry showers was brilliant.

I saw sunshine, rain, very string winds, hail, sleet, snow and superb cloud formations all in one day.

Pretty much a "full hand" in terms of weather aces.

Late yesterday and today we seem to have slipped into NE England default spring weather of cold misty drizzle from the North Sea - hopefully only briefly though.
Tomorrow looks better and today it should break up inland.

Glorious day here in Newcastle today. Car thermometer touched 20c which obviously won't be right but still it's been a warm, wonderful day with a light breeze.

Be quite a difference tomorrow as BBC has us down for 10c!

Quite a marked cold front, it would have been more spectacular if it had crossed (say) early evening yesterday.
Very little rain from it here.

I ventured down to Seaton Sluice beach earlier today with the young un.

What a difference a day makes. The wind was so cold it was unbelievable!

Yes most notable aspect of today's weather was the stiff cold wind. Out in the northern fells and it felt very much like winter. Snow down to 400 metres first thing..

I think it felt more accentuated by the fact that the breeze on Friday was welcome and almost summer like.

Today was a cold biting wind and very "wintry" feeling. Glad we wrapped up for the trip.

Very clear day out at sea though in really sunny conditions.

Rain starting to arrive in Darlington now

Watch out for some cold temps tonight even in the towns and cities could get down as low as 2c as skies begin to clear later this afternoon, if you have any tender plants in your gardens beware

The rain has turned to wet snow in Keswick. Amazing to think that it was almost 20 degrees two days ago.

heavy rain here now, disappointing day really. As for next week, general dry theme with temps slowly recovering to just above average... as ever the warmth is to be found down south midweek :( nights will be chilly with slight frost at times, as summer sun mentioned above tonight should be the coldest night with a more widespread morning frost.

overall dry period ahead until later in month.
