Yes quite cold here current temp 1.8 degrees. Forecast 1 degrees if skies clear for any lengthy period than we might just about get to zero.

Quite a chilly outlook, not especially cold but below par for the time of year, Tuesday looks the coldest day with possible wintry showers down to quite low levels and a cold frosty night in sheltered spots Tuesday evening.

This is turning into a fairly typical March, a bit of everything with spring stuttering..

Any wintriness up in the Lakes at all recently?

If so, any pictures? :)

There isn't much left around Keswick, just a few patches on Skiddaw.

I've seen falling snow on a few occasions this winter and woke up to a "covering" one morning, but in all honesty this winter has been up there with one of the poorest I've endured in terms of wintriness.

Be nice to get some milder days now.

There was a fairly decent cover on ground above 2,000 ft last weekend in the Eastern Lakes. However, milder conditions this past week means there are only patches on highest ground now, more so in sheltered hollows etc. Tuesday should see some fresh snowfall on the higher ground. Plenty of time still left for a heavy dose of snow to cover the fells, indeed April is renowned for producing sudden snowfalls on the tops when we get northerly airstreams.

Its been an average season I would say snow wise in the Lake District in terms of days with snow falling, slightly below par in terms of days with snow cover but much below par in terms of depth of snowfall. Most snowfalls have been light at best and often in the form of showers rather than frontal attacks. Last winter surprisingly delivered huge falls on ground above 750 metres, many of the fronts gave snow on the very highest ground  and Raise ski tow was buried thick for a long time.

Could be quite a bit of hail around the region tomorrow and the odd rumble of thunder, more especially in the afternoon.

Looks like a fine day tomorrow after a frosty start, but could be some tricky travelling conditions first thing on Thursday morning on higher ground with some rare frontal snow.

what a miserable morning, cold and sleet/snow falling here... wonder how much higher up you need to be to see proper snow??

different feeling day later on this afternoon... day of two halves.

We've got a decent cover of inch and half only at 120 metres, still snowing but very light.

Hills are white, sleety here. Have counted 4.8mm of rain so potentially several inches of snow higher up.

Snow level is about 1000 feet here.

Remarkably the snowfall of this morning produced the deepest cover we have seen all season so far - nudging 5 cms at one point.. All snowfalls this season have been around the 1-3 cm mark, all courtesy of convection.

It's not unusual for the most active snow events to be in spring though as there's more energy around and everything else is still practically as cold as it gets

Yellow warning for strong winds issued

Issued at: 1046 on Fri 27 Mar 2015

Valid from: 0700 on Sat 28 Mar 2015

Valid to: 1800 on Sat 28 Mar 2015

Winds will strengthen during Saturday morning to bring gales to many locations. The swathe of strongest winds will start in the southwest of the warning region during the early morning before transferring northeastwards through the day. Gust speeds are expected to reach 55-60mph, with more exposed locations seeing some gusts of 65mph. The public should be aware of the potential for some localised travel disruption.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

A deepening area of low pressure will move northeastwards from the Atlantic through Friday night and Saturday with a swathe of strong winds around its southern flank. There is some uncertainty over the intensity of this system and therefore also the peak wind speeds, but latest indications are that the north of Northern Ireland, much of Scotland and also parts of northern England (especially to the east of the Pennines) are most likely to be affected. The winds will moderate from the west during Saturday afternoon, with northeastern Scotland the last place to see winds reduce.

Quite surprised there are still snowdrifts up three feet deep by the road over the moor,
Looked quite out of place with strong sun streaming through car windows.

Yellow warning for strong winds issued

Issued at: 1056 on Mon 30 Mar 2015

Valid from: 1900 on Mon 30 Mar 2015

Valid to: 1900 on Tue 31 Mar 2015

Westerly winds will become strong across many parts of Northern Ireland, southern Scotland, England and Wales during Monday evening and night, with gusts of 50-60 mph and isolated gusts of 65-70 mph in exposed locations. The wind will become northwesterly by Tuesday morning, and although easing for a time, it will become very gusty through the day, particularly near showers. The public should be aware of the risk of localised damage from these winds and for minor disruption to travel.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

A deepening area of low pressure will move east across northern Scotland during Monday evening, bringing strong westerly winds to many parts of Northern Ireland, southern Scotland, England and Wales with gales and locally severe gales in places. A focus for some particularly gusty winds may be adjacent to the Bristol Channel coast during the early hours of Tuesday. A cold and showery northwesterly airstream will become established for Tuesday, with powerful gusts in and near showers, particularly over Northern Ireland, southwest Scotland and Northern England.

very windy this morning, some heavy showers through the day (possibly wintry in places, more so on high ground) with strong gusts of wind and feeling cold in wind.

can't wait for the easter break and time off work... will weather play ball? Improving story as we move through the weekend with high pressure building, temps will slowly improve too

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
