Dont throw the towel in yet Nick. Those showers to our North are heading this way, should start to make an appearance around 10pm. Dewpoint here now has just gone into -values and temp is falling off quickly now.

The arrows are the 500mb and 700mb wind direction. (the movement of the shower clouds)

 

Not sure. doesn't look like it's following the arrows. Seems to be going more SSW to me. Looks like it'll hit Newc and skirt to the W of Durham. As is typical.

Looking at the radar it looks like the Morpeth to Sunderland coastal snow barrier is about to be breached.  Lamp post time shortly.....   and not a chance of sleet, at -0.6c.

Look at that radar. It is pathetic. Can anyone give a sense of WHY the forecast heavy showers have simply failed to materialise? There is barely anything coming!

I'm just north of morpeth and it's snowing ! A bit wet but it is lying!

In fact just been out again and it's coming down heavy! Best so far this year for me I think

I'm sorry but it neither lays or lies, it lands! temp down to 1.3 now and dp is 1.2, my decking is like an ice rink, my 2 labs both just went a$$ over t1t when I let them out
