Hopefully temp will fall steadily now and freeze the ground as it wont be till after midnight before we see the next batch of wintry shower head south down the eastern side of our region.

Just when it couldn't get any worse, it looks like Tues/Wed will see the whole southern half of England getting buried :-S

I think Nick is referring to this post on the MOD thread

Waiting for the country file forecast on any minute now to see if they go for something similar the one after the lunchtime news didn't

Well country file isn't following the MOD thread pretty much the same as the forecast at 13:15 a few wintry showers around but nothing significant or disruptive then a gradual change to less cold conditions next weekend and into the following week

well country file forecast was pretty poor to be honest, to much uncertainty regarding this week so will come down to now casting on the day for snow (will it wont it)

Weather warning for tonight been updated to include more of north east england... towards the pennines.

Wintry showers are now becoming more frequent across northern and northeast Scotland with a spell of more persistent sleet and snow likely to develop by Sunday evening, moving southwards across some other parts of eastern Scotland and then northeast England later in the night. Inland and above about 200 m this may lead to snow accumulations of 2-5 cm, with greater amounts at higher altitudes. Meanwhile, along the coast a mixture of rain and sleet looks more likely, and with road temperatures falling below freezing this will lead to some icy stretches on untreated surfaces.

The public should be aware of the potential for difficult driving conditions and slippery surfaces.

This warning has been updated to include more of northern Scotland, and also a broader portion of northern England, where recent showers of rain, sleet and snow are likely to enhance the risk of ice on Sunday evening.

Looks as though the places most likely to get showers from the North Sea are unlikely to be quite cold enough to hold snow cover for long..

Rain and Sleet sounds about right for us.

An hour ago the car thermometer said 3c. Temperatures don't look like getting to freezing point here unfortunately.

A sheer waste of decent synoptics for my area.

Yes, keep on rubbing it in.

Cheers.

Hovering around 1c here but snow outside isn't melting ; hopefully the temp drops a little just so it can freeze a little better and then the showers later bring some depth hopefully

There is hardly any snow to melt, some of which has already melted.

We'll see if it even makes this far South, a clear drier period is not a bad thing and the reason why the snowfall this morning occured(albeit not very much) was because upper and lower air temps were low enough for it, no doubt if there was more intensity then no doubt we would of seen more in the way of snowfall. It would also help the ground to dry up somewhat(Although lying snow can settle on a wet ground quickly if the temps are at 0 or below) but see if we get any PPN first!

Today surprised me a little bit, was not really expecting a persistant PPN event and it was ashame the air once again was just not cold enough although we did get some snow at times but sadly the intensity was never consistently moderate-heavy no matter how much it tried. Was expecting and hoping a more convective Northerly in truth.

When is the next band due to hit. They don't seem to be making any in roads towards us.

Will be after midnight for sure, it's the area of showers currently over north east scotland that will be heading down the north sea to our patch... futher south you live longer it will take and prob not as intense maybe.

In these situations for whatever reason PPN tends to dissapear in Eastern Scotland but you usually start seeing speckles of PPN developing near Northumberland and this is what I expected but nothing seems to be happening as of yet.

Time is running out also I feel for things to change and too look more promising.

The showers east of Scotland are now making good progress towards the region, not sure why they

got "held up" for so long.

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
