Well sadly a miss from the polar low for Barnsley, although sounds like most of Yorkshire missed as well. Some precip building off the coast between Lancaster and Blackpool which could be moving south east towards us.

I once read ice Melt depends on the pressure not just the temperature not quite sure how that works ?

No new snow to wake up to this morning as expected. Ah well, I am sure there will be plenty more opportunities over the next week or so.

Just out of interest, what have us Yorkshire and Lincolnshire folk recorded in terms of maximum snow depths this winter?

I probably had 2 to 3 inches after the snowfall last week but I barely have a covering at the moment.

I suspect that there will be huge variations over relatively small areas.

well, if you include the snow we had here on boxing day it totals about 1 inch of snow this winter, and all that fell on boxing day.

Ah yes I forgot about boxing day I wasn't around until a couple of days later but I would still say only 3 inches maximum here.

Nice scenes here this morning, with most of yesterday afternoons snow remaining with the temp below freezing for most of the night. Currently -0.8c.

Yeah sadly missed us, although did clip Chesterfield. Ah well plenty of other snow opportunities. Dry today with the odd chance of a passing flurry from the NW. Chance of some showers overnight and into Saturday :)

The only good thing out of being way too far east from this "polar low" was I recorded my coldest night of the year at a whopping -4.0c. Stellas all round as legritter would say in the MOD thread. cheers

Morning everyone.

Well what a stunning sunrise this morning! Fantastic red sky and snow on the ground. You cant beat winter can you :D

Shame we missed last night, but theres nothing to be down about really. Still plenty of snow opportunities coming up from now until at least Wednesday. Features can always crop up when the northerly is established and the models are still showing something possibly developing Tuesday. Lots to keep us interested.

Heres to the next snow chase with you all :cold:

The radar showed the snow passing overhead here however it didn't actually snow or anything so no new snow here.

We'll I can't believe how poor the bbc are being! And I cannot believe that temps are forecast to be 4/5c. Expect all snow gone by later!

The bbc say snow showers or sleet tonight and snow showers sat night giving a covering! I bet there wrong on both counts!! Very poor.

I would have thought clear blue skies with snow cover would have kept the air temp v.low. But obviously not.

Yep, some possibilities in the early part of next week as that's still a fairly volatile situation, but current output has us dry for at least the next seven days, as the high pressure out to our west strengthens and moves nearer. Still in no way 'mild', and hopefully some decent sunny spells as well.

Yes it's always depressing when the thaw starts, but after last years poor winter i'm just delighted to have got some snow in the last week or so. I'm sure some members, especially in the south haven't even seen a flake in 2 years, so with that in mind we have done rather well.
