-3.2c here now, lowest at 6am down to -6.1c, so not as cold as last night by 1c

Because of the fog, everything is coated in frost - so looks incredible this morning and feels colder, with no sun this morning.

Will see if I can attach any pics....cheers all!

Beautiful hoar frost out there this morning. It all looks pretty spectacular.

If we can't have snow, this is the next best thing.

I have woke up to 2 hot air balloons passing over the house on a cold frosty morning :).

Minimum temp was -6.3°C at 04:08 but has been rising ever since then, currently 0.5°C and Cloudy.

There was freezing fog in patches before I went to bed so it does seem that way.

this is copy and then pasted from the MOD thread, this is a quote from ian ferguson Ref SSW.

not really all that good for most of january im affraid.

1. Depends on where any blocking establishes, & scope/longevity of this.
2. Typical lag time from SSW to surface response is circa 3 weeks
3. Confidence remains high in broadly W'ly regime for a good chunk of Jan
4. Tentative signals, currently low confidence, for increased blocking late Jan
5. Current lack of such (clear) signal in EC-EPS/EC Monthly unsurprising
6. Any emergence of unambiguous and impending pattern change via SSW will be clearly signposted in UKMO forecasts/communication, as was case in early 2013..

I'm one of those who sat on the winter as normal side of life. All the talk of stratosphere, troposphere, Ssw's are all probably events that have gone on time immemorial, and right now I don't think we really understand quite it means.

Look at the weather as a global entity for overall pattern, right now we are looking down the westerly gun barrel for the foreseeable future.

Well, how strange! My Davis and Netatmo both recorded exactly the same lows as yesterday morning. -4.3C and -3.9C respectively.

Still a tad under zero now..

Strange as it was warmer this morning here. Did you get fog last night / this morning, it was thick here.

No fog here, although it was grey to start with. The min on both stations was at 7:59am - 10 mins before sunrise.

Slightly higher minimum than the night before at -4.9C but very cold nonetheless. Lovely day now though after some earlier cloud passed through.

Just caught up on here.. Don't think I'll pop over to the MOD thread as I fear it will be doom and gloom. I just dream of a lovely snowy winter.... Don't think we will ever see it happen (sorry it's depressing me!) I'll go away now and leave the happier people to comment!

Chin up Khodds. It will happen, just not in the coming week, or so.

Sun's out now and all the frost has gone.
