Somerset county council have just tweeted to say they aren't gritting tonight... Is this wise?! I know its not going to get especially cold here but surely places like the mendips should be gritted just in case?

Temperatures going the wrong way here for snow. 6C and rising, must be in some sort of warm sector. Rain has also stopped. Waiting for the pivot backwards then maybe there will be some surprises.

I'm not holding my breath but we'll see. I have fond memories of the rain to snow event of 18th-19th December 2004 and 11th January 2008. Both were down to intensity of the precipitation however and the temperature was never above 5C on both occasions.

Very mild after the rain here in Colyton. The wind has picked up in past 10 mins and already feels much colder. Good luck lamp post watchers!
