Hi all. A quick question, I am still learning here. I read a comment that stated the pressure was too high for snowfall at the moment and it needed to fall below 980? Is this correct.

No, it's more likely to rain/snow when we're affected by low pressure systems but pressure by itself has nothing to do with snow

A calm frosty morning here in Essex, over an hour late for work because of the M25 problems but made it in one piece thankfully, doesn't feel particularly cold without any wind

I suspect the cold air won't dig in fast enough behind it to enable it to turn wintry unfortunately. ECM has it clearing the far southeast by midday with air temps still around 6-7c.

The frost in my garden which is exposed to the sunshine has melted, but in the shade the water is still iced over! Clouding over now though, 4.1c!

What a topsy turfy Winter this is. No one really knows what's going to happened in next few days let alone rest of Winter. I have recorded more frosts so far than the entire last winter.

Temp is 6.2 now, but feels a very mild 6.2, probably due to wind direction, which is from the west.

Was another cold and frosty start here like it was for others in the region, took a bit longer than normal to de-ice the car, then this afternoon (having been in the office and warehouse all day) I stepped out to a sill chilly day with a blustery wind, was not expecting much like it until later this evening.  No rain yet and whilst it is 6.0oC in the shed it feels much less out in the wind.

Gusty here nothing like what the Herbrides are about to experience... :help:

Gnawing wind really has a bite to it - windchill must be close to 0c.

Weather bomb :bomb: sounds better than deep atlantic low !   Was it The Daily Suppressed that came up with that? No, it is actually a meteorological term! :shok:  The Express is running with

STORM OF CENTURY: Britain to be smashed by hurricane-force wind and SIX-STOREY waves

Anyway........... The bomb has started ticking here........ raining lightly, 10.3c 15mph winds!

THEY SET US UP THE BOMB! (only game nerds will get that)

Thank crunchie for a modern build with double glazing, hardly know it was blowing a storm outside, I shall stay inside till the morn and look upon the distressed wheely bins out there then.

I'm really disappointed that we are not bearing the brunt of this storm. I do love a good storm!

All the usual caveats apply- of course people must stay safe :)

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
