Some pretty strong gusts of wind here in the showers, but nothing compared to last winter's storms! Our dustbins are not half way down the street, which was a regular occurrence last winter!:oops: Just read the above post, the dustbin thing is annoying isn't it!

Just on my lunch break,it's very stormy out there I see the winds are gusting 70mph just up the road at St Bees Head. Met office were bang on with this event, they've been getting much better lately with storm forecasts, they had the early warnings out 4 days in advance.

Tbh I am not sure why they extended the warning this far south? It never looked like it was going to be too bad down here and at the moment there is nothing more than a strong breeze, am I missing something?

Still very gusty here and we never do well for events like this being defended by the pennines, it seems to be getting stronger and stronger today however.

Oh dear! :(

This alone, justifies early yellow warnings.  There have been a few reports of trees down around here, probably weakened ones but it only takes one person to be walking or driving by to get caught under it.

Gusty winds and heavy showers now filtering a bit inland here....nowhere near as exposed as those who live along the coastal area's but still it's like flicking a switch between relatively benign to battening down the hatches when the showers come along.  Conifers doing a merry dance in the strongest of winds.

Very windy here, winds really got up in the last hour or so. I'm exposed to the northwesterly gale where I live and have a few tall trees nearby in that direction so hoping they stay upright! Talking of which I see a woman has been killed by a falling tree in London.

Sad to read a woman has been killed by a falling tree in London.

OH in London has texted me a picture of a van outside his work that has been blown over.

Happened in knightsbridge I think and  trees have been blown down in other London boroughs! Missed the really strong gusts here thankfully!

Conveyor belt has setup now - classic showers turning to longer spells of rain scenario.  Gusty winds and not very nice conditions for those who have to work outside in the elements.

i agree to an extent with you on the Met office flaging this up,however i think the widespread nature of the event caught them out a little, hence the extension of warnings only this morning.Sadly a death in London due to falling trees,Sussex has three people seriously injured by falling trees too.

I will admit I was wrong, strong gusts now seemed to have arrived here.

My thoughts go out to those affected and there families
