Although still ongoing activity is continuing it's slow decline. When the eruption will finally cease is a good question and whether it will be a pause before another pulse of action also remains to open speculation.

Well the website says it is and the volume of erupted material is dropping as are the number of quakes.

Yes, the gas pollution warning has also been removed. I think we are heading towards the end of the fissure eruption and as Barda is calming down it could be that there won't be a collapse or any sort of big bang.

Don't know what it means, but a lot of the 4+ quakes lately have been very shallow.

Quietly ongoing it looks like there was nearly another 5 yesterday but everything seems on the wane. A lot less detected earthquakes and the lava field is now over 83km2. Looks like subsidence is also declining as well.

A 5.1 today first for a while. Apparently the caldera has sunk by 59m and is still sinking. Eruption still ongoing.

so in sumary, the caldara has declined in depth(don't know if if has reached bottom),and the frequency in earthquakes has dropped but hularuan is still burning, there is still no telling when the eruption will stop.

Fridays IMO update.  Mentions geothermal cauldrons have increased in size but not sure if this is of any significance.

good view on CAM2 now.

Eruption still going strong though lava flow looks reduced. Coming up to 6 months since it started now.

9 February 2015 10:00 - from geoscientist on duty

About 20 earthquakes have been detected at Bárðarbunga since noon yesterday. All were under M4; two were over M3 (M 3.8 and M3.2) and only a few small earthquakes in the dyke intrusion. The eruption was visible in web cameras this morning.

Marked reduction in seismic activity - how will this evolve not quite sure I'm not a volcanologist.

The caldera GPS seems to have stopped working again this morning,I think last nights readings were probably unreliable.

Now officially ended as well. Interesting that it looks like the dike has got beyond Askja looking at the recent semis activity.

Some new news as regards to Bardarbunga volcano

Scientists: Sub-Glacial Eruption in Bárðarbunga Likely By Eygló Svala Arnarsdóttir March 02, 2015 08:24

Updated: March 02, 2015 08:26

In light of the volcano’s history and considering the fact that a large part of the Bárðarbunga volcanic system lies under Vatnajökull glacier, a sub-glacial eruption is likely, according to Kristín Jónsdóttir, director of the Icelandic Met Office’s natural hazards division.

The volcanic eruption in Holuhraun, which ended on Friday, was connected with Bárðarbunga by an underground intrusive dike through which magma was channeled. Now that the vent has closed, pressure continues to build in the sub-glacial volcano.

“It’s absolutely clear that Bárðarbunga is on. The activity comes in series and a period of increased activity has begun in Bárðarbunga, so that it’s highly likely that further eruptions will follow,†Kristín told RÚV

However, it’s difficult to predict when and where the next eruption will occur, Kristín stated, adding that a series of eruptions could be coming up in the following years. A sub-glacial eruption is likely, she maintained.

“A large part of the Bárðarbunga volcanic system lies under the glacier and therefore it’s highly likely that an eruption will occur under the glacier with the accompanying ash fall and flooding,†Kristín concluded.

Only time will tell. It could also actually be the end. After big E quiet a few were saying Katla would go although a look at the erupt history showed the link to be tenuous at least. The question in my mind is Askja how much magma from the Bárðarbunga eruption got into it's system? Will be interesting if it erupts in a few years what type of lave it erupts.
