No advisories from the VAAC yet, although I suspect with it being early the Met will be assessing the impacts with the IMO. Certainly a different ball-game from from the recent Grimsvotn and Eyjaf eruptions.

Just as I post that the Icelanders have upgraded the airspace to 'Code Red' over the immediate vicinity.

Bardarbunga 2 webcam zoomed in so can see more detail, seems to be coming from more than one crack or section along the same crack

Aviation colour code upgraded to red http://en.vedur.is/earthquakes-and-volcanism/volcanic-eruptions/

Wasn't quite sure if it would be as it may not fulfil the 'significant ash emission into the atmosphere likely' part, but probably the eruption existing overrides that

Need to go to bed but this is distracting, only checked by chance.

Edit: beaten to it.

if that fissure goes for the glacier then there is gonna be some almighty explosive stuff that will come from this with the ice melt and possibly a 20km fountain of lava mixing with it.

Steam pouring out all along the ridge and at different vents.

Well that ain't dust folks. Now its through to the surface we will see a gradual lengthening of the fissure over the next few weeks I would think, the EQ's will settle down in to a pattern more constant too.

Expect fireworks when it either enters the glacier, floods with river water or sets a volcano like Askja off.

50/50 its still fissuring by Christmas.....

The cams show steam(volcanoes do not smoke) I would think that there is lava interacting with ground water in the fissure, both in small amounts as yet.

But it could be just hot rock in the depths of the fissure and no lava, we will see.

Screen shot from the eruption site, lucky girl, hope she stays safe.

The dusty area on the Bada 1 cam over the past few days really could have been connected with this afterall, tut.

I'm a bit confused by some conflicting reports. Does this mean that over the next few weeks a full on eruption will happen with closed airspace or that over the next few weeks it will be bubbling up for a later eruption?

No. 2 has always been like that whenever I've looked at it over the past few days. It seems to be more of a vertical stretching and shrinking of the image. No idea why though.

Could be either, or it could just go back to sleep.

Time will tell

Have the cameras gone offline?  I'm getting a "Server not found" on all the Mila cameras.

Probably crashed due to people like me wanting to look.....

Nice flyover film. The area the steam is venting from has obviously seen some action in the past due to the ridges, they certainly haven't built up in the last few days.

Think of this as similar physics to shaking a full bottle of coke sideways and punching a needle-hole in the top, the viscious gasses will naturally want to exit the easiest and quickest path until the co2 depletes in energy. A similar setup imho from what we're seeing now as the magmatic gas has found a natural path to the surface as the mama continues to rise. Wether this results in a full-on eruption or the fissure simply 'scars' over and the magma chooses to exist via the Askja route is yet to be seen.

Can somebody please post the link to the earthquakes monitoring site? I only have it saved in my laptop at home.
